New escape room in Eastbourne captures the local character

lockedroomlogoEastbourne’s Locked Room has only been open for two months,  but it’s quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most fun and challenging attractions the town has to offer.

Whether it’s families searching for a fun daytime activity, staff who are looking for a team building exercise, students who are hunting for a challenge, or tourists who are taking a break from the sea air, all sorts of people and groups are flocking to The Locked Room.

Suited to anyone who’s looking for a brain-teasing afternoon out, The Locked Room requires team work, patience and calm – something that is particularly difficult when punters are up against decreasing time and increasing tension.

A company spokesperson for The Locked Room Escape Room in Eastbourne said: “We all know that Easbourners love a good time, but we love a challenge too. That’s why setting up The Locked Room was a no-brainer for us: we knew it would fit well in the local economy, and with the local character.”

Offering a good old fashioned puzzle in a physical, immersive environment, escape rooms are taking the world by storm. Though their roots may lie in scavenger hunts and haunted houses, the more integrated, hands-on experience offered by an escape room is easily marketable to a modern audience – as punters look for novel, retro experiences and aim to rekindle the magic of game shows like the Crystal Maze and Fort Boyard.

As a result, escape rooms have spread from their roots in Japan across the world, and there are thought to now be around 8000 escape rooms globally.

They can range from wild west and sci-fi styles, to more niche aesthetics. This range of different themes, the different levels of complexity and the quality of the set design means that escape room enthusiasts are known to travel across the globe to face new, novel challenges – Eastbourne’s The Locked Room is an example that is likely to see them flock from miles around.

“I think it’s great to see something new in Eastbourne. We all love the beach, the pier and the grand architecture, and our offering fits in well — it’s great for groups, and a great way to spend the afternoon,” says The Locked Room’s spokesman.

And it’s true: the appetite for novelty and entertainment in Eastbourne is not to be underestimated -The Locked Room certainly fits the brief
