Brits admit to returning to the same resort year after year – rather than finding somewhere new

Half of sunseekers go back to the same resort year after year – so they don’t have to spend hours trawling online sites to find somewhere new, a study found.

A poll of 7,800 holidaymakers across 26 countries, including the UK, the USA and Australia, revealed more than 10 hours are spent planning getaways on average.

And they typically start to lose interest when researching a holiday just 42 minutes into the process.

Further to this, 27 per cent consider holiday planning to be one of life’s ‘biggest stresses’.

Commissioned by Hotels.com, the research found a quarter find all the organising so tiresome they have decided against going away altogether.

Another 37 per cent said arranging a holiday has been so gruelling they’ve made a mistake when finalising it – such as booking the wrong dates.

Holiday planning even affects our performance at work – 44 per cent admit they secretly research their time away when in the office.

And three in 10 revealed they get less work done when planning a holiday.

Perhaps as result, four in 10 would be willing to pay over the odds for in order to avoid having to do endless amounts of research.

More than a third would even considering paying a friend to plan it for them – £140 on average.

The Hotels.com research carried out through OnePoll also found 22 per cent look through more than 11 holiday options before making a decision on where to go.

And for 91 per cent, online reviews are ‘essential’ when it comes to booking a break.

Adam Jay, president of Hotels.com, said: “Time to start surfing the waves instead of the web and swap the net lag for the jet lag.
