DIYs You Never Thought To Try

Now that warmer weather is upon us and we don’t have to worry as much about wind and rain, it is the ideal time of the year to start trying some DIY projects. Spring and summer provide an ideal climate for doing odd jobs around your house, and today we are going to take a look at some specific things you can do this weekend to save you feeling bored and add some fun to the space.

1. Bird Feeder Wreath

One of the things we will get a lot during the summer is birds in our garden. Once chicks start to hatch and fledge from their nests our gardens will be full of life and colour. To attract more birds to your garden this year you can use bird seed, and this feeder couldn’t be easier to make. All you need to do is use a donut shaped mould and pour in some mixed bird seed, then place a looped white ribbon into the top and pour some fat over. The fat can be suet or even some sausage or bacon fat which you have poured into a container after breakfast. Hang it outside and you’ll soon have loads of birds.

2. Upside-Down Tomato Planter

If you fancy trying your hand at growing some tomatoes this summer, this next DIY will only take seconds and it is super simple. Cut the bottom off a soda bottle and place a tomato seedling in the bottom. Full with compost and hang upside down. Water it regularly and soon enough you will have tomatoes growing for you to use in soups and salads.

3. Insulated Roof

It is super important to take the chance to insulate your home when the weather is warm. And you can use Spray Foam Insulation to cover your roof and make sure that the damp cannot penetrate into your home. This will make a huge difference to your structure and it will ensure that you don’t have issues with mould.

4. Candke Jars

A simple DIY to brighten up the living room this spring could be to turn some old coffee jars or mason jars into tealight holders. All you will need is to get some paint or glitter and cover the jar with a pattern, and then place your tealight inside for a cute decoration. There are lots of great mason jar candle holder ideas on Pinterest for you to take some inspiration from!

5. Ceramic Ring Holder

If you have a bit of spare time on your hands, this next idea can be a good gift for a family member or a friend. Start off with some polymer clay and mould with your fingers into a small dish shape. It doesn’t have to be perfect because you are going for a rustic look. Let the clay dry completely or bake it if the box says that you can. Once dry or cooled, we can create a pattern with nail polish. In a bowl of room temperature water, pour a drop of nail polish into the water. Add another colour on top, then another, and so on until you are happy. Use a toothpick to move the polish around and make a marble design; then dip the plate in face down to pick up the colour. Once the polish is on, let it dry and leave. Cover with a coat of clear polish and you’ll have a stunning ring plate for a gift or yourself!

6. Leafy Stepping Stones

If you fancy a fun DIY for the garden, you can use large leaves, cement and a trowel to make some cute stepping stones! All you need to do is use a dish shaped container in the size of the stepping stone you want, and pour in some cement. Using a large leaf such as from a fascia, you can place this flat on top of the cement to great a veiny design. Leave to dry and then clean!

7, Shoe Plant Pot

Be just like old mother Hubble in the garden this year and plant your flowers inside a shoe! If you have an old trainer or Wellington boot, you can simply dip it in cement and tap of the excess and let t dry. Then plant your favourite flowers inside for a unique twist.

8. Message Tea Cup

If you have a family member who you want to show some love and appreciation for this year, one of the things you can do is buy yourself a plain white mug and then write on it with a sharpie. Once you have written or drawn on it, bake for 10 minutes in the oven and you have the ideal gift.

9. Hanging Baskets

If you are looking for a way to brighten up your garden space this summer and you don’t know where to start, a hanging basket can be the ideal option for you. Hanging baskets are lovely features to have in the garden and you can hang them outside the front door or in the back of the house. There are a lot of combinations you can add to a hanging basket such as pansies, busy Lizzie’s, lobelia, cosmos, strawberries, fushia and much more. You can even plant flowers like marigolds or sweet pea for a cottage garden feel.

10. Light Up Headboard

One of the rooms in the house which often doesn’t get enough love is the bedroom, and there are lots of things you can do in this part of the house to

Make it feel more magical and relaxing. It’s a good idea for you to create a soft light up headboard for your bed this summer, and there is a super simple way to do it. If you have a headboard already all you need to do is hang a net of white fairy lights on the headboard. If not, you can make a headboard with some plywood from Cut My Plastic, fabric, and a staple gun. It will make the bedroom look amazing all year long.
