Parents and Teachers are turning to technology amidst school closings

Last week, Boris Johnson announced that schools across the UK will close, to halt the spread of the coronavirus. As a result, thousands of children are now taught remotely. In search of ways to accommodate the new reality faced by British families, many parents and teachers are turning to technology.

Teachers work side by side with artificial intelligence in online lessons

Starting last Saturday, education technology company Atom Learning hosted their first free online lesson, with 958 children attending.

The company has free lessons scheduled throughout the coming weeks, with thousands of parents signing up their children for the lessons.

We have been amazed by the number of parents signing their children up for the free online lessons” says Head of Growth at Atom Learning, David Joerring.

Atom Learning combines teacher made content with Artificial Intelligence to create optimal learning paths for children, by tailoring content to the individual child.

We work with hundreds of schools and multiple Multi-Academy Trusts, and we know it requires additional skills to teach effectively online, which is why in light of the COVID-19 crisis, we are providing unlimited access to online lessons hosted by professional teachers to our thousands of subscribers”. – David Joerring.

Schools are increasingly embracing technology

While many schools have in recent years begun to use the technologies being developed by the UK’s fast-growing EdTech industry, the current crisis has led many more to rapidly adopt new technologies.

Atom Learning is partnering with schools, and provide the schools with free access to their technology.

Atom Learning has proved a very useful platform, both for work that is controlled by the school and for self-directed learning. The tools available on the school platform have allowed us to establish online homework for pupils at a bespoke level of difficulty and timing” – says Tony Chan, Deputy Head at Sussex House School, one of the early adopters of Atom Learning.
