The Lord Mayor is organising a fundraising family fun day and dog show – and he needs your help.
The show will be held at the Assembly Festival Gardens on Sunday 1 May.
It will help raise funds for the Lord Mayor’s charities of animal welfare, responsible pet ownership, Historic Coventry and Coventry’s 5 ½ mile Canal
It will feature classes including:
- Puppy (6 months to 12 months)
- Prettiest Bitch
- Most Handsome Dog
- Scrufts! (Scruffiest dog)
- Veteran (over 7 years)
- Sausage retrieve
- Fancy Dress
- Fastest biscuit eater
- My friend at time of need
- Best Rescue
- Dog the Lord Mayor would like to take home
- Overall Winner
However, volunteers and charity stall holders are needed.
Could you help with general duties on the day, or are you involved in a charitable organisation or group that could run a stall? Maybe you know someone who can do pet portraits, or who is involved with an animal welfare-related business?
Anyone who can play a part in raising funds and making the fun day a success is welcome – just contact email@example.com
Lord Mayor Cllr John McNicholas, is a keen supporter of animal welfare and responsible pet ownership, and during his year in office he is helping to raise awareness of the issues, as well as funds.
He said: “The day will be a celebration of our four-legged friends and all about celebrating the role they play in our lives and having fun. Our pets bring so much to our lives and this is a chance to give something back to them and raise money that will go to give a little extra help to those dogs that need it.
“I would love to see as many people there as possible – and their dogs – so please join in if you can.”
The entry fee is £2 per dog per class, or £5 for three classes. Registration is from 11am and the first class starts at 12noon.
