Council awards £14,000 to local community projects

Eden District Council’s Cabinet has approved its Community Fund Partnership Panel recommendation to award grants totalling £14,000 to community projects in the district.

Armathwaite Old School hall is set to receive £10,000 towards the £33,600 costs of its Phase 2 refurbishment and Wetheriggs United Football Club has been granted £4,000 towards the £9,780 cost of refurbishing kitchen facilities.

The Community Fund is Eden District Council’s community grant scheme and was established in 2013/2014 to support and develop community initiatives within Eden District.

The partnership panel, which is chaired by Communities Portfolio Holder, Cllr. Lissie Sharp, includes representatives from Action with Communities in Cumbria, Penrith Action for Community Transition as well as individual community representatives.

Of the three applications considered, Armathwaite Old School Hall and Wetheriggs United Football Club were recommended to receive the full amount requested. The third application was deferred to the next funding round as the panel requested more information before committing to part-fund the project.

Eden District Council Communities Portfolio holder, Cllr. Lissie Sharp, said:

“It is a real pleasure to chair the Eden District Council Community Fund Partnership panel. It is one of the most rewarding parts of being the portfolio holder for Communities.

“Eden District Council are committed to providing assistance and support to grassroots community groups; the hard work and dedication of individuals and community groups is immense, the projects and events across Eden that we fund make such a positive impact and a real difference to people’s lives.

“I’m delighted that we are able to provide this fund to be able to support projects like Armathwaite Old School Hall and the Wetheriggs United Football Club.”

The Council’s Community Fund Partnership Panel welcomes applications for grants of between £200 and £10,000 from community and voluntary groups, parish and town councils, charities and social enterprises, to deliver projects that benefit communities in Eden District.

The deadline for the next round of funding is 7 January 2022.
