Chairman of Mole Valley District Council Officially Opens new Pop-Up Shop in Leatherhead – Latest news from Mole Valley District Council
On 18 March 2022 the Chairman of Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) officially opened ‘Pop Up Leatherhead’ – a pilot pop-up shop located in the Swan Centre, Leatherhead, that enables entrepreneurs and small businesses to experience high street retail.
In addition and in order to support businesses from across all sectors, MVDC also launched Mole Valley for Business – a new website that provides a comprehensive resource detailing courses, events, funding opportunities, guidance and business support available to local companies.
After an official opening ceremony at Pop Up Leatherhead, the ribbon was cut and launch day visitors were welcomed into the store for a tour to view the mixed-use shelf, retail, gallery and workshop space.
The concept aims to provide affordable opportunities for new retail businesses to showcase products, grow sales and test new lines, and launched with a diverse range of sellers*.
As well as providing an opportunity for small businesses and entrepreneurs to try out high street retail, the project will build a supportive retail community offering 1-2-1 business mentoring, practical workshops and advice to budding entrepreneurs.
Three workshops are already planned for later this spring (on the topics of PR, social media and websites) and will be held at the nearby Mole Valley Employment and Skills Hub (MV Hub), also located in the Swan Centre. The MV Hub played an integral part in the set-up of the shop, successfully recruiting one of the new Store Managers.
Councillor Clayton Wellman, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy and Security, said: “We are thrilled to open the doors of Pop-Up Leatherhead, a concept that provides much more than a simple retail space. We look forward to welcoming small and local retail businesses into Leatherhead town centre and supporting them on their journey into the world of high street retail.
“In addition we have launched Mole Valley for Business, a new resource that successfully brings together support and guidance that businesses of all sizes and from all industries can easily access, in order to flourish and grow.”
The Pop Up Shop Agents founder Charley Crocker, said: “We are so proud to introduce our first month of fabulous entrepreneurs, and we look forward to providing customers with a bright, warm and welcoming store, where they can buy the highest quality products yet still shop local and support our Surrey businesses. We have a display from local artist Brett Lohn, plus on our retail side everything from adult and children’s clothing brands and vegan green beauty, to hand crafted jewellery and handmade treats for your dog!
“It has been an absolute pleasure working with Mole Valley District Council, The Swan Centre and MV Hub, on this project and we are excited to be showing off local business but also giving business training in collaboration with MV Hub.”
