The Government has announced new temporary precautionary measures introduced this week to reduce the spread of the new Covid-19 Omicron variant in the UK.
The measures include the compulsory wearing face coverings in shops and on public transport (except for those who are exempt from doing so). In addition, all travellers returning to the UK will require PCR testing.
North Norfolk District Council Leader Cllr Sarah Bütikofer said it was important for residents and visitors to our district to remain vigilant and continue to work together to help control the spread of the virus.
She commented: “Due in no small part to the responsible behaviour of our residents, businesses and visitors to North Norfolk, we have thankfully had some of the lowest Covid infection rates in England over the months since the virus first arrived in our country.
“However, infection rates are climbing here and elsewhere across the UK again and the arrival of the new Omicron variant clearly provides extra cause for concern.
“We urge everyone to participate fully in the vaccination programme and to follow the new guidelines announced this week by wearing masks in shops and on public transport, unless you are exempt.
“Continuing to support each other and working together remain our strongest weapons in the fight against this deadly virus.”
