Carlisle Jubilee Events
The government has put together a handy online guide.
For public liability insurance advice visit the Street Party site and The Big Lunch website and shop around. The Big Lunch have negotiated special rates for street party insurance starting at just £28, which can be split between people attending, or you could ask for donations to cover the costs.
Would you like to organise a street party that would require a road closure?
The good news is that if it’s a small-scale event on a minor road or cul-de-sac, there will be no cost for the road closure.
Complete our online form and send us a plan of the street that the road closure will take place on (including house numbers). Also ensure that you have let all your neighbours know of the plans – as the majority need to support the planned closure.
So that we have time to let the emergency services and other agencies know about the road closure, please send us all the completed paperwork by Friday 13 May 2022. You can email this to [email protected] or send it to: Events, Carlisle City Council, Civic Centre, Rickergate, Carlisle, CA3 8QG.
Once you’ve got permission, you will need to display the notices along the entire route of the closure, to use appropriate measures to close the road so that vehicles cannot access and then return the street to its original state after the party has finished.
The Licensing Act 2003 does not require a music licence at a street party unless amplified music is one of the main purposes of the event.
However, if you plan to sell alcohol you will need to check whether you need a Temporary Events Notice. This is a temporary permission for licensable activities which currently costs £21 and covers events of fewer than 500 people, including anyone helping to run the event. Contact our licensing team by emailing [email protected] or call 01228 817523.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed that one-off events such as street parties aren’t usually considered food businesses, so there are no forms to fill in. However, you must ensure that any food provided is safe to eat.
The FSA website provides more advice about providing safe food at street parties and other community events. The NHS website has practical tips on how to prepare and cook food safely.
Want to attend an organised event?
The weekend of the Queen’s Jubilee June 2022 will see many celebrations and different events across the city which will reflect, not just a celebration of Her Majesty’s 70-year reign, but the people and city of Carlisle itself. It will be a time to come together again as community.
Carlisle City Council, Carlisle Vineyard Church, Carlisle Healthcare and the Eden Project (The Big Jubilee Lunch) are going to be jointly hosting a ’Community Celebration of Hope’ in Bitts Park on Sunday 5 June 2022 as part of the celebrations.
The event will be themed on ‘The Communities of Carlisle coming together to celebrate’ and we hope that the event will be a vibrant, multi-cultural, mix of art, food, people, activities and music.
The Jubilee fun will last all day, including a Family Film Show on a large screen in the morning, followed by the Big Jubilee Lunch, where everyone will be invited to bring their own picnic and join the party! In the afternoon, the big screen will live-stream coverage of the Jubilee Pageant from outside Buckingham Palace.
The London celebrations will include street theatre, music and dance representing all corners of the Commonwealth, performed by over 5,000 entertainers. A River of Hope will wind its way along the Mall, made up of 200 silk flags. It’s sure to be a colourful and vibrant tribute to the Queen’s record breaking 70-year reign and not to be missed.
