Southside Car Park Refurbishment Project Under Way – Latest news from Mole Valley District Council

Mole Valley District Council’s (MVDC’s) Southside Car Park in Dorking will benefit from a range of key improvements as a part of a wider multimillion-pound car park refurbishment project in the district.

Users and visitors of the Dorking’s car park will soon benefit from £375k improvements including new surface, relining, handrails and drainage. Enabling works will also take place in preparation to fit Electric Vehicle Charging Points. The project is planned to start towards the end of June 2022.

In order to reduce any disruption, the car park will remain open during the renovation period, which is scheduled to be complete in early October 2022.

Up to 25% of parking spaces might not be available for use during the works, and traffic management will be in place. Sections of the car park will be closed off in advance and car park users are asked not to park their vehicles in the designated section the evening before the works are due to take place. B&M McHugh Ltd who are delivering the project on behalf of MVDC can be contacted via email on with any queries about the work.

The nearest alternative parking is in St Martin’s Walk, accessible from Mill Lane; more information on available car parks can be found on MVDC website under

Clayton Wellman, Cabinet Member for Sustainable Economy and Security said: “Southside is the first car park on our refurbishment agenda this year and we can’t wait to proceed. The refurb, and then the new Electric Vehicle Charge Points that will follow soon after, will create a better experience for us all. In the meantime, I would like to thank all residents, businesses and visitors for their patience, cooperation and understanding while the refurbishment work is taking place. The works will be phased to ensure that the car park remains operational throughout the project and disruption is kept to a minimum.”
