Babergh District Council has been in talks with the Post Office following the announcement of the closure of its Market Hill branch in Sudbury.

The Post Office counter is part of the town’s WH Smith store, but the shop is due to close on June 9, leaving the postal service without a home and forcing customers to travel further afield.

Babergh District Council this week confirmed that a licence has been granted for a mobile unit to be installed at Borehamgate Shopping Precinct prior to the closure of WH Smith to maintain continuity of service for residents and businesses in Sudbury.

Babergh District Council leader and cabinet member for Economic Growth, Cllr John Ward said:

“We know how much local businesses and residents rely on post office services and we are delighted to have found an interim solution to ensure these services are still available within the town centre.  Discussions continue in the hope that we can also agree a longer-term solution to ensure the town and high street can look forward to a thriving future.”
