- Elective Surgery wards – Covering Urology, General Surgery, Vascular, Orthopaedic, Gynaecology and Breast.
- Emergency wards – Covering Surgical Assessment, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Urology, General Surgery, Vascular, ENT, Gynaecology and Breast.
- Emergency wards – Covering Frailty Assessment, Acute Medical, Acute Stroke, Rehab, Gastroenterology, Renal, Cardiology, Care of Older People, Respiratory, Diabetes and Endocrinology.
- Emergency departments
- Critical Care units
- Diagnostic & Out Patient services
Children’s and Neonatal Services
- Elective and Emergency paediatric wards and the Neonatal Unit.
Posts are available across a range of clinical areas and we are also able to support rotational posts across a number of pathways – with an agreed initial base ward/department being assigned at the point of recruitment.

In short, we are looking to recruit enthusiastic newly qualified registered nurses who are due to qualify between December 2022 and March 2023 to join our established multi-disciplinary teams providing high quality care across our three sites. You will be joining an organisation that is focused on supporting newly qualified nurses to consolidate their skills and knowledge. We provide all newly qualified nurses with a 12 month preceptorship programme that will support you in your career transition delivered by clinical educators and specialist teams both face to face and via teams.
Our pay structure explained
Within the Trust, colleagues are paid each month on the 25th (this may be slightly earlier if this date falls on a weekend or bank holiday).
The majority of NHS employees are remunerated as per a national pay scale known as ‘Agenda for Change’. This encompasses 11 pay bands, starting at Band 2which begins at £20,270 and running to Band 9 which, at present, tops out at £109,475. As part of these pay bandings, there are a number of pay progression ‘steps’. For example, Band 3 starts at £21,730 per year, rising to £23,177 after two years in role. In addition to this, there are yearly percentage increases applied to all wages, with this agreed at around 4.5% for 2022/23.
Please note, Registered Nurse begin on Band 5 on the entry pay step – £27,055 per annum.
Additionally, any member of staff, regardless of age, will be members of the 2015 NHS Pension Scheme. While you can opt out, this means that colleagues contribute a small percentage of their monthly earnings which forms part of your later pension when you decide to retire.
Finally, depending on your role, you may be able to undertake extra hours or work which is paid via NHS Professionals, often at enhanced rates for unsociable work patterns.
Our leave policy
Annual leave within the NHS is worked out per annum (per financial year, running from 1 April to 31 March).
While this is slightly different for part time workers (and worked out pro-rata), if you are full-time (worked out as 37.5 hours a week), upon appointment you are entitled to 27 days of leave (worked out as hours), as well as eight general public holidays.
After five years of service within the NHS, this entitlement rises to 29 days of leave, with public holidays included – and finally after 10 years of service you are entitled to 33 days of leave with public holidays included.
If you undertake additional hours via bank (NHS Professionals) you will also accrue additional leave entitlement, which is paid out monetarily.

Park and Ride
The Park and Ride is situated opposite the Doncaster Race Course on Leger Way. It can be accessed via the aforementioned road, or Town Moor Avenue. The designated car park for this facility is to the far end near to Whitby’s Fish and Chip shop.
Available for hospital staff, patients and visitors, this shuttle runs between the Park and Ride facility on Leger Way and South Block Outpatients near to Gate 6 of Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The shuttle operates Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) between 5.50am and 10.00pm. This service costs 50p per journey for patients and visitors – staff ride for free just show your NHS badge.
The bus journey normally takes between five and seven minutes. Please allow adequate time to park your vehicle and ride up to the hospital in good time for your appointment. The shuttle stop is at the far end of the car park, near to Whitby’s Fish and Chip shop. There is a small platform, with seating next to a sign outlining the time table.
Please note, as per current COVID-19 restrictions, we ask all users of the shuttle to wear an appropriate face covering unless medically exempt.
Pick up point at Doncaster Royal Infirmary:
The current and temporary pick-up and drop-off point at Doncaster Royal Infirmary is outside South Block.
Leaving your vehicle:
There is ample room for your vehicle in this car park. Please can we remind visitors, patients and staff to park within the marked bays.
We have lighting available in this area, while security colleagues regularly patrol.
Walking from the Park and Ride to Doncaster Royal Infirmary:
When the weather is fine, and if you fancy the exercise, it is perfectly possible to walk from the Park and Ride to Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
The journey, which is just over half a mile will take you between 12 and 15 minutes on foot, and below are the suggested routes you can take.
Christmas Advent calendar
Beginning in 2021, from 1 to 25 December, every member of staff is enrolled in a prize-draw to mark the days of Advent and as a ‘thank you’ to all colleagues for their efforts throughout the year. Last year prizes included tickets to West End shows, a smart watch, a spa day and much, much more!
Alongside the Buzz, colleagues can stay in touch and up-to-date by joining a very active Facebook group for members of staff. With daily postings, you will join 6,000 of your colleagues discussing the things that matters, receiving all the latest news, as well as getting involved in exclusive polls and engagements about specific developments within our hospitals.
Random Acts of Kindness
We have a schedule of events known as ‘Random Acts of Kindness’. This ranges from a free cuppa’ and slice of cake delivered by the Executive Team, all staff to a free £25 gift voucher at Christmas and a free trip to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. Each random act is a surprise, and we have a number organised for 2022!
Bluelight and NHS discounts
As a member of Team DBTH you will be entitled to NHS discount as well as a Bluelight card. This will give you access to savings at a range of shops and eateries both locally and regionally!
NHS Fleet and Tusker lease cars
The Trust offers not one but two lease car suppliers. As a member of the team you will receive exclusive discount and offers via generous salary sacrifice schemes, with significant savings to be made on a range of vehicles including electronic cars such as those made by Tesla!
Similarly, the Trust works with VIVUP to offer a range of discounts and savings on gym memberships as well as electronic goods via salary sacrifice.

Supporting your health and wellbeing
Staff support line and Resource Hub
In the current climate of increasing pressures on our healthcare system, our NHS people potentially face significant stresses. We have introduced a confidential staff support line, operated by the Samaritans and free to access from 7.00 am – 11.00 pm, seven days a week.

This pack contains lots of information about what support DBTH can offer you during this time and a few tips and other free external services which will help you look after your health and wellbeing Staff counselling services are also available 24/7 by calling the Vivup Employee Assistance Provision.. The team has a wide variety of skills and knowledge and have offered their service because they recognise the importance of supporting staff through difficult times.
Our chaplaincy team is available to support you. The chapels remain open for personal use and prayer mats are also available and a Sunday service will be broadcast on the hospital radio station.

Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (DBTH) is one of Yorkshire’s leading acute trusts, serving a population of more than 420,000 across South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and the surrounding areas.

How we are dealing with COVID-19, an overview of the past year and plans for the future
Executive Medical Director, Dr Tim Noble, who explains the challenges we have faced this year, as well as gives a brief overview of the past 12 months and how we have moved forward, whilst still working in the context of a pandemic.

Doncaster Royal Infirmary
Is a large acute hospital with over 500 beds, a 24-hour Emergency Department (ED), and trauma unit status. In addition to the full range of district general hospital care, DRI also provides some specialist services including vascular surgery. It has inpatient, day case, diagnostic and outpatient facilities.
Is an acute hospital with over 170 beds, a 24-hour Emergency Department (ED) and the full range of district general hospital services including a breast care unit and renal dialysis. Bassetlaw has inpatient, day case and outpatient facilities.
A small non-acute hospital with over 50 inpatient beds for people who need further rehabilitation before they can be discharged. There is a nurse-led minor injuries unit, open 9am to 9pm. It also has a day surgery unit, renal dialysis, a chronic pain management unit and a wide range of outpatient clinics. Montagu is the site of our Rehabilitation Centre, Clinical Simulation Centre and the base for the abdominal aortic aneurysm screening programme.
