'Wordle' and 'Queen Elizabeth' were among the top 10 Google searches in the US in 2022. Here's the full list.

  • Many of the year's top US searches involved pop culture, celebrity deaths, and lottery numbers.

#10: Jeffrey Dahmer

Netflix's smash hit TV series "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" was released in late September and quickly climbed the ranks to become one of the streaming service's most popular shows. Netflix reports that the show has been viewed more than 1 billion times in its first 60 days. 

However, "Dahmer" has faced backlash from some of the serial killer's victims' family members, who said the show has retraumatized them. 

#9: Anne Heche

Anne Heche was an American actress known for roles in films like "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and "Walking and Talking." 

Heche was involved with a car accident in August. Heche died on August 11, 2022 from injuries sustained in a crash.

The Powerball lottery was the cause of much excitement last month after it grew to $2.04 billion – the largest lottery prize ever.

Mega Millions had a huge year with a payout in July of $1.337 million. It was the second-largest ever jackpot and it was won to an Illinois resident.

Queen Elizabeth was the longest serving monarch in British history. She remained on her throne for seventy years. She died in September at 96 years old, and her son, Charles III, took over as the country's new monarch.

The election resulted that the Democrats retained control of US Senate while Republicans took control of House of Representatives. 

#1: Wordle

Wordle is being played by someone.

Wordle is the topic most Google-searched in the US in 2022. 

This simple word game became immensely popular earlier this year. Many players began sharing their scores on social media in the form colored boxes. This allowed them to brag about their achievements. Josh Wardle, Brooklyn’s software engineer, created the game. The New York Times purchased it in January for an undisclosed sum in the low-sevens.
