Former Twitter employees who filed lawsuits against Musk speak out

Two former Twitter employees are now filed a class-action lawsuit against the company, accusing it of gender discrimination.

The lawsuit — filed in San Francisco Federal Court — allegesMusk’s new policies had a “disproportionate effect” on women. According to data analyzed in the lawsuit, Twitter laid off 57% of the its female employees and only 47% of its male employees. According to the lawsuit’s data analysis, 63% of women working in engineering roles were fired, while only 48% of men worked in similar positions.  

This is one of several lawsuits filed by former employees against Twitter since Elon Musk. took ownership on October 27, and more than half of the company’s workforce.

Other class-action suitsTwitter’s violations to the California WARN Act (which requires employers to give substantial advance notice to employees before implementing mass layoffs) should be addressed. Former employees claim that Twitter gave them less than the 60-day notice required and they were paid months of severance. 

Another suit argues that Twitter discriminated against disabled workers by requiring them to come into the office without providing reasonable accommodation – a mandate by the California Fair Employment and Housing Act. 

Shannon Liss -Riordan, a labor lawyer representing some Twitter employees, held a press conference at San Francisco on Thursday, ahead of the court hearing in a class-action lawsuit filed by five former employees alleging that Twitter did not give adequate notice before its mass layoffs.  

The hearing was primarily focused on an emergency motion that required Twitter to inform all employees about their rights before it distributed severance agreements. Liss-Riordan said that she had also filed a similar suit against Tesla over its layoffs in June 2022.

Four plaintiffs from the LissRiordan lawsuits spoke at the conference. Many of them spoke out in support of former colleagues and their families, or for those who couldn’t risk appearing at this conference. 

Dmitry Borodaenko (an ex-engineering manager at Twitter) is the main plaintiff in the case against Twitter discrimination against employees with disabilities. According to him, being a cancer survivor, the possibility of contracting a virus such as COVID-19 was “life or death.” Musk’s new policies enabled him to work from home to avoid health-related risk. almost impossible

Emmanuel “Manu” Cornet was an engineer who is well-known for his talents. his satirical cartoonsInsider was told by, that “the only thing I want from this conference is to send support signals toward people who may be in the same situation.”

Most speakers expressed disapproval for Musk. Many people pointed out that Musk believed there were no legal implications for how he treated his workers. 

“You get multi-billionaires who believe they are above the law. Liss-Riordan stated that Elon Musk was the richest man on the planet. “It is crucial that laws in the country are enforced so that multimillionaires, and other companies, recognize that they have an obligation towards workers.”
