Hope Hicks Accuses Trump of Unfair Jan. 6

In a spate of witness deposition transcripts released onFriday’s House select committee investigation into the January 6, 2021 insurrection. A transcript reveals that the former White House Communications Director was interviewed. Hope Hicks told the committeeFormer President Donald Trump felt that the blame he received from Capitol Hill for the riot was unfair.
Once one of Trump’s closest allies, 34-year-old Hicks sat voluntarily for witness testimony, a video of which aired during the committee’s final hearing on Monday. According to the transcript released Friday, she was one the few people in Trump’s orbit who informed Trump that he had lost 2020.

Hicks spoke with Trump on January 11, 2021, just days after the bloody insurrection.
“He asked if I thought it was as bad and as bad-as everyone was making it out. The transcript says that I answered “Yes, I thought it was.”
She added: “I think he felt like t wasn’t fair — the response to it wasn’t fair.”
Hicks, who resigned from the White House on January 12, 2021She stated that she had told Trump to change his approach to appear more rational to observers.
Hicks said that he was just telling Hicks, “I think, you understand, the more rational that you are and more restrained that you are, the greater the extreme look of everybody else. So things like banning social media I think will backfire and that, you see, if people focus on the things they really care about, and not the elections, I think things will get better for you, politically.”
She also said that Trump had asked her if the election was stolen. To which she objected.
“And then we just kind of exchanged some pleasantries and that was it,” she said.
Hicks said, “I think he felt like, yeah, blaming me for everything that happened wasn’t fair.”
