Iowa Republican Wife Convicted of Casting 23 Fraudulent Election Votes

Thursday saw the arrest of the wife of an Iowa Republican who ran in 2020 for Congress. She was accused of casting 23 fraudulent ballots on behalf of her husband.

Prosecutors allege that Kim Phuong Taylor visited numerous households within the Vietnamese community of Woodbury County, where she collected absentee votes for people who weren’t there at the time. Taylor, who was born and raised in Vietnam, filled out the ballots and cast them herself, according to the indictment.

Taylor is also accused with signing voter registration forms on behalf residents who weren’t there. Prosecutors allege that Taylor was involved in 26 counts, including three counts of fraudulent registration and providing false information. Each charge carries a maximum of five years in prison.

Prosecutors claim that Taylor’s husband, Republican politician Jeremy Taylor was the target.

Jeremy Taylor ran in 2020 GOP primary for Iowa’s fourth congressional district. This was represented at the time by Steve King, a far right politician with ties towards white nationalists. Taylor finished third, with just over 6,400 votes.

Taylor was however more successful in the fall 2020 general elections, where he ran for the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors as a Republican candidate. He currently serves as vice chairperson of the board. He did not immediately respond when we asked him for comment.

According to Taylor’s official biography, the couple met while Jeremy Taylor was teaching at a Vietnamese university. They have six children.

John P. Greer (the court-appointed attorney for Kim Taylor) declined to comment on behalf his client. According to court documents she is currently on bail.
