Texas rapper BiNG drops new album ‘At It Again’

HOUSTON, TX – Joseph Guillory, AKA BiNG, is an artist with a truly original sound. Unlike anything else out there in the world of Hip Hop, his use of distorted instrumentals paired with rhythmic flows creates an intriguing sound that is causing new listers all over the South to sit up and pay attention. And now with his new album “At It Again,” this Texas-based musician is offering a compilation of his works in an effort to share that one-of-a-kind sound with a wider global audience.

Featuring all of his best music to date with a couple of radio-ready tracks, “At It Again” shows off BiNG’s ability to turn a phrase and have fun with witty wordplay. His style is in-your-face and aggressive with a sound to match, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t come across as offensive or off-putting. Quite the contrary, really, as this Down South boy is really just a normal guy on the microphone sharing stories of his life in as creative of a way as he can.

“I use more of a futuristic tone to my music,” he said. ‘Sometimes it’s too far in the future for people to like. It’s a very progressive sound but at the end of the day, what I go for is something that sounds good. I’m gonna rap about a lot of different things – depression or being a player or just everyday things that happen in life. But ultimately, I’m trying to do something that sounds good and is enjoyable to people.”

BiNG first started writing music in the 90s and spent much of that decade developing his unique sound and style. He was inspired by the legendary crew Public Enemy, and has always been enamored by the hype energy of Flava Flave. He also studied greats like Tupac and Biggie, and found his own brand of swag by trying to emulate the swag of Biggie Smalls. One of the singles on his new album, “Raise Up,” is an homage to Biggie and even samples some of his style at certain points throughout the song.

“I came up dreaming of being a one-hit wonder, and there is power in that when you own the rights,” BiNG said. “I’m 41 now and I’ve decided to take my music more public because I’m getting ‘Do it’ and ‘Oh, it’s good comments from Rap lovers who hear my stuff. I’m in it for the pussy and the money. I have a love for black women. I’m a mad man who started out in a mad clan after solo writings, and I’m a one-man clan now. I’m loud and in your face and flipping and have more wordplay than you know what to do with.”

BAY AREA ARTISTS COLLABORATE TO PRODUCE BLACK LIVES MATTER POSTER SERIES

https://www.prfire.com/
BERKELEY, CA — In response to the Black Lives Matter movement, MUSA, a digital platform connecting artists and venues, asked emerging artists based in the Bay Area to create individual letters for a collaborative poster that spells out “Black Lives Matter.” The poster stands for the collective responsibility to protect the lives, rights and voices of historically marginalized groups. “We stand in unity with the Black community and push for the end of a systemic racism and classism structure,” said MUSA founder Lucas Tepman.

When asked why she’d participated in this collaboration, artist Amadi Greenstein (Instagram @amadiroseee), stated that, “As a Black artist, this project stands as a meaningful form of personal expression. My intention was to design a visual art piece that simply signifies my experiences and inspirations I’ve carried throughout my childhood, while also stating as an expression of my thoughts and feelings of frustration, disappointment and anger that’s developed towards this current movement.”

The posters will be distributed for free to local businesses from the Bay Area Organization of Black Owned Businesses (BAOBOB) directory. BAOBOB is a membership organization committed to connecting, promoting, informing and representing black-owned/lead businesses and nonprofits throughout the United States. Businesses that have already agreed to display the poster include: Oeste Oakland, Anasa Oakland, Bissap Baobab, Oakstop, Ala Mar, Everett & Jones BBQ, Miss Ollie’, The Black Woman Is God, Mandela Grocery Cooperative, Bikes 4 Life, Strategy Squad, and Rich City Rides. Businesses that would like to receive a poster should reach out to MUSA directly.

The BLM poster, alongside individual posters created by the artists, are now on sale via the MUSA website. The 12×18 inch posters sell for $20, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the Oakland African American Chamber of Commerce: https://oaacc.org/resiliency-fund/.

It is the hope of the collaborators that these posters will remain on the walls of homes and shops, reminding us all why we are taking a stand, be that through protests, donations, education initiatives, etc., and why we must continue to speak out in support of racial equality.

About MUSA: MUSA is a digital platform connecting local emerging artists with community spaces. Through MUSA, neighborhood venues are transformed into art spaces that the local community can rediscover, reshaped by the art around them. It is the first platform where venues are able to search for and choose the type of art and event that they want to create. In addition to its matching tools, MUSA handles all of the business details of the arrangement, including the payment system, art-hanging solutions, insurance, contracts, and promotion.

Boycotting Black Friday is there another way?

Black Friday, is a dark day indeed but is it VALUE we’re missing when it comes to this day of consumerism celebration?

Every year we hear reports of overnight queues, stampedes, fighting, violence and even (in 2008) death, as desperate shoppers are lured into stores hunting down good deals.

For those preferring to blacken their Fridays from home, the delivery of online orders reportedly result in air pollution spikes, not to mention the production costs to our planets ecosystem services to create these excessive tempting items, their packaging and then the resulting waste issues.

With Black Friday falling at the end of a week that saw the 2019 Emissions Gap report warn us that the world is set to warm by 3.0C+ by 2100 with current human behaviour, it’s easy to see why initiatives such as ‘Buy Nothing Day’ and hash tags such as #BoycottBlackFriday are gaining traction.

The term Black Friday originated from high street shops moving out of ‘the red’ and finally making a profit after a year of hard slog. With our high streets struggling and our local shop owners (the ones who donate products for your child’s school Christmas fair!), overlooked for the cheap delights of exploitative brands, is there an opportunity to reinvent Black Friday by exploring what a ‘good deal’ actually means to us.

According to Global Citizen 88% of the 14 million viewers who watched, Blue Planet II, valued the health of our planet and the people and creatures that inhabit it so much that they changed their lifestyles.

So what if the feel good factor equalled good value? Instead of a ‘good deal’ meaning ‘buy one get one free’ what if we could reframe it as ‘buy one and get one free… for someone who really needs it?’

Take ‘Stand for Socks’ great quality durable, long lasting, warm and cosy socks, perfect for long cold nights spent on the streets, a small comfort for when you feel alone, hungry and scared. If you buy one pair for yourself you’ll get one delivered to a homeless person for free. You can feel proud that your hard earned money made the world a slightly better place, and you get long lasting premium socks with a story.

BiG PAL 2.0 portable chargers from Power A Life, are outstanding products, featuring the latest in quick charging technology. For every product sold, you directly provide a child in a developing country with a solar light. What value would you put on improving a child’s ability to triple their test scores, progress to secondary school, have better health, higher earning potential and a better likely hood of lifting themselves and their community out of poverty?

The team at Social Supermarket believe consumerism has a vital role to play. Co-founder Jamie Palmer commented, “Excessive consumerism is a problem, but to live we need to consume. With global environmental and social issues at the heart of today’s consumer we need to give them easier access to the responsible brands offering valuable solutions.”

Finding products with a purpose-driven story who are making a positive impact, can be time consuming. Online retailers such as the Social Supermarket, have rounded them up and investigated their impact claims to curate a catalogue of certified feel good brands with Black Friday and everyday ‘feel good’ offers. They also go to great lengths to make the consumer journey as ethical as possible.
