Quantexa’s cloud-based technology helps OFX fight financial crime

Leading foreign exchange and global payments provider OFX deploys Quantexa, utilising Google Cloud Platform, to fight increasing industry financial crime risk and support regulatory obligations

London and Sydney, June 24th 2020 – Quantexa, the leader in contextual decision intelligence (CDI) software and solutions, has partnered with OFX, to deploy a pioneering cloud-based service technology platform that strengthens OFX’s financial crime detection capabilities in international payments.

With increasing regulatory focus on the integrity of international payments, OFX is leading the way with enhanced anti-financial crime detection and investigation capabilities, working with Quantexa. The jointly configured cloud-based solution deployed using Google Cloud Platform infrastructure, uses dynamic entity resolution and network analytics as-a-service to build a complete contextual view across multiple data sources to detect financial crime more accurately. The enhanced capabilities of the solution have empowered OFX to enhance the process for monitoring its customers transactional activity and improving the detection of financial crime.

By creating a 360-degree contextual view of the customer, the platform enables the generation of more meaningful alerts and the ability to spot hidden risks more effectively, with fewer false positive alerts.

The partnership brings together two leading innovators in the FinTech and RegTech sectors to enable more automated, real-time decisioning and to more effectively detect criminal activity across borders.

By enriching internal data with transactional data and external sources, Quantexa’s CDI technology builds a complete network view of customers to reveal hidden connections and suspicious activity. A contextual approach to risk detection empowers OFX to effectively identify complex risk and financial crime, such as money laundering, and enables them to make better operational decisions in a shorter time frame.

Vishal Marria, CEO of Quantexa, said: “We are delighted to be working with such a progressive organisation like OFX, who are leveraging our contextual decisioning technology to tackle an important global challenge, to help ensure international fund transfers are not exploited by increasingly sophisticated criminal networks, looking to move illicit funds across borders. Jointly we have created a solution that is ensuring the integrity of international payments.”

Mark Shaw, COO of OFX, said: “We continuously look for innovative ways to build on our existing prevention systems to keep ahead of financial crime. The bottom line is that this matters because it protects our customers and our communities. Illicit flows can underpin horrendous crimes and all of us in the industry has to play our part in making sure we do everything in our power to ensure we prevent it. Quantexa’s open technology integrates into our IT ecosystem and augments our team’s investigative capability. It has given us the ability to identify wider networks of suspicious transfers, enabling us to react quickly and protect our customers.”

One Digital Signage taking the fight to COVID-19 with cutting-edge LCD hand sanitiser solutions

The West Midlands-based digital signage specialists announce new distribution agreement with Northamber PLC following program of investment in sanitiser technologies essential to the UK’s recovery from the COVID-19 crisis.

27th May 2020, Birmingham, UK – One Digital Signage are pleased to announce a new distribution agreement with Northamber PLC that will see the industry-leading AV & IT distributor promote and distribute One’s innovative range of hand sanitiser units.

One Digital Signage has understandably experienced huge interest in their sanitiser & thermometer-integrated products during recent months and this exclusive partnership is the latest step in the growth of this business area.

There is now a critical need for sanitiser solutions amongst organisations and venues exploring safe ways to open for business as their recovery from the COVID-19 crisis begins. One Digital Signage have already invested more than a hundred thousand pounds in the development of a unique range of units designed to meet this need.

“We found organisations can often feel forced towards purchasing Chinese manufactured units directly, with no UK warranty or in-country support” explains Richard Westhead, Managing Director at One Digital Signage.

“Put quite simply, it makes no sense to have such low resilience in an area that will become increasingly crucial to business continuity. That’s why all our units offer a full 3-year UK warranty, aftersales support and are CE, RoHS and RED approved.”

The sanitiser units boast lightweight design and a simple setup process, making self-installation possible for most businesses. Combined with a low maintenance construction utilising moulded plastics, which won’t corrode due to contact with sanitiser liquids, it means the units offer market-leading total cost of ownership.

By integrating their high-quality screen hardware into the range of wall-mounted or freestanding automatic hand sanitiser stations and kiosks, One Digital Signage has designed the products to allow organisations to comply with NHS guidance on infection control and most importantly protect their staff, customers and visitors.

The digital displays can be managed individually or as a network in order to deliver consistent and up to date information. Built-in 3G, WIFI and ethernet functionality allows the units to deliver connectivity options suitable for any location or business.

The units also include a nozzle management chip to provide reporting on sanitiser usage and reordering requirements. This ensures organisations know exactly how the devices are being used and can avoid business disruption from shortages or maintenance issues.

The larger units in the range, such as the 22” touchscreen curved kiosk, can be upgraded with hardware such as integrated thermal printers and infrared thermometers. These technologies provide a comprehensive and powerful infection-control solution for any site where admission, capacity and queues will require careful management in the future.

On the new distribution agreement Westhead comments: “The process of reopening for business is still surrounded by uncertainty. However, one thing that is guaranteed is the role digital signage has to play in keeping the population mindful and informed as the return to public spaces happens.

“We are looking forward to working exclusively with Northamber Group to bring our unique range of products to the market and play our part in the UK’s economic recovery at this unprecedented time.

“Having carried out their usual stringent due diligence process, the new partnership demonstrates Northamber’s confidence in ourselves and our sanitiser product range. It will now enable both our resellers and clients to benefit from Northamber’s incredible 40 years’ experience; as well as having access to their industry-leading logistics and distribution infrastructure.”

In the fight against covid-19 you don’t have to suffer in pain

Since social distancing was first introduced across the United Kingdom in a response to the covid-19 pandemic, physiotherapy clinics began to reduce patient contact and limit appointments for only the most urgent cases. When the guidelines progressed into a full scale lockdown, all physiotherapy clinics in both the NHS and private practice closed their doors completely.

This left a huge number of people suffering in pain, confused on how to manage their symptoms and unsure where to turn next. ‘Dr Google’ only works to-a-point and unfortunately, the internet contains lots of misinformation.

Your mum’s best friend’s cousin from bingo who had the same problem that you think you have now has recommended a home remedy….but that’s not worked either! So what now?

Physioadvice247.com was conceived and set up in 2017 by an experienced chartered physiotherapist and private practice owner Mark Humphreys. Initially aimed at helping people who work long hours or travel a lot and are unable to attend ‘traditional’ physiotherapy clinics, this service has now become invaluable in the fight against COVID-19.

With clinics closed, NHS 111 overwhelmed and hospitals ‘off limits’ except for the most serious cases, video consultations are proving a Godsend for anyone in pain.

As Mark explains on the www.physioadvice247.com website, ‘In modern clinical practice diagnosis are made by meticulously listening to the history and description of symptoms from the patient, the response to specific further detailed questions and sometimes the use of special movement tests. If indicated, we will then guide you through a self-examination to identify any structures of concern (like tendons, ligaments and muscles).

There is considerable evidence to support this from telephone-based services ran in our own National Health Service, but some of the benefits of a video over telephone consultation are that they allow you to actually show us where the problem is and us to observe how you move in relation to your symptoms’.

Mark continues to explain that due to the current ‘stay at home’ guidance he is seeing a large increase in clients with pain from situations where they are their dining room chair as their new office chair, training too little (or too much), or simply spending too much time on the sofa or in bed.

Established in 2017 www.physioadvice247.com is tried and tested. They offer something unique; using the most up-to-date software to conduct your video consultation allows them to show you on screen pictures, videos and explanations of your diagnosis during the call. It works across all devices from computers, to smart phones and tablets.

You don’t need to be technically-minded, just to have a device with a camera on it and an internet connection. It really is simple and easy to use. Best of all, it’s really affordable at only £20 for a consultation.

Given Mark’s considerable experience and expertise, wherever your pain is and if it’s a new injury or an on-going one, he can help help you stay fighting fit when it matters most!

Check out www.physioadvice247.com today and see how they can help you.

RUSSIAN MILITARY VIROLOGISTS WHO DEVELOPED A VACCINE AGAINST EBOLA WILL HELP ITALY IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CORONAVIRUS

Russia sent the best military virologists to Italy, who at various times fought Ebola, Swine fever and anthrax.

An aviation group of the Russian air force consisting of 9 IL-76 aircrafts delivered equipment and about 100 military specialists to Italy to help the Republic fight against coronavirus.

The group is headed by major General Sergey Kikot, who performed tasks to counter spread of anthrax and is considered to be one of the best specialists in Russia in the field of cutting-edge special treatment systems.

The mission also includes Lieutenant Colonel Gennady Eremin, who has experience in fighting African swine fever, foot-and-mouth disease and other disorders. He is a candidate of Medicine and a leading scientist at a research center. It is assumed that Gennady Eremin will deal with the organization and handling of anti-epidemic measures.

One of the most prominent members of the group was Vyacheslav Kulish, who is a specialist in the development of protection against biological agents of a viral nature. The scientific community knows him as an expert who took an active part in the creation of a vaccine against Ebola and developed a number of anti-plague drugs. Together with his Italian colleagues, Vyacheslav Kulish will solve problems related to the implementation of special treatment and conduct anti-epidemic measures.

Alexander Yumanov, Lieutenant Colonel of the medical service, an associate Professor of the Military Medical Academy named after S. M. Kirov and candidate of medical Sciences, is also a member of this delegation. In 2019, he participated in drills of military medical services of the ASEAN member States and the dialogue partners of the “SMA plus” MEDEX-2019 format in India on anti-epidemic support in natural disasters and emergencies. Alexander Yumanov was also involved in the work of Russian military hospital in the Republic of Guinea as a part of international program to fight Ebola in this country.

Another member of the expert group is a candidate of medical Sciences, a leading epidemiologist, Colonel of medical service Alexey Smirnov, who actively participated in the development of a vaccine against Ebola.

Among the equipment delivered to Italy by the Russian authorities are coronavirus diagnostics and disinfection systems.
Italy has the most number of coronavirus-infected citizens than any other country in Europe.

As of March 23, 5,400 people have died and the total number of infected has reached 59,400. At the same time, a number of experts note that those infected with coronavirus in Russia and a number of European countries have a clear “Italian” nature of the disease.

Russia regularly sends its virologists and epidemiologists to fight diseases in other countries. In 1999, a medical hospital based on a special medical unit was sent to the Yugoslav region of Kosovo. In the shortest possible time, this hospital became the largest medical facility in Kosovo, and the UN leadership asked the Russian Defense Ministry to allow regular medical care for UN personnel in this facility. In 2004, Russian virologists provided assistance to the government of Indonesia in the aftermath of the tsunami that killed 120 thousand people and destroyed country’s the medical infrastructure. More than 2000 people were treated in the Russian hospital redeployed to Indonesia. In 2014, Russian specialists helped the Republic of Guinea defeat Ebola. As a part of Russian assistance program, a 200-bed infectious military hospital and a number of specialists in epidemiology were deployed to the African country.

Dentsu Tracking supports the European Union to fight illicit trade in tobacco products.

Dentsu Tracking, a brand of Dentsu Aegis Network, is collaborating with the European Commission and Member States of the European Union (EU) to design and operate a track and trace system as part of EU legislation on tobacco control (Tobacco Products Directive).

The track and trace system supports EU Member States in the fight against illicit trade. It, therefore, plays an important role in protecting public health, state budgets and legal economic operators.

This industry-wide scope required an innovative platform and data analysis system capable of tracking more than 26 billion products per year across the EU.

“As far as we know, this is the world’s first solution giving 360 visibility of the supply-chain across an entire industry”, says Philippe Castella, Managing Director of Dentsu Tracking. “We are honoured to work with the European Commission and the EU Member States. It is a unique project allowing 28 Member States on one single platform to track domestic and transnational sales, as well as products exported outside of the EU. No other platform is connecting this volume and complexity of data”.

Dentsu Tracking was awarded the concession in December 2018 based on an innovative solution that provides public authorities with visibility of the total supply-chain from manufacturing to retail. It also ensures that the track and trace system is under full control of public authorities, including access to the collected data, as required by the Tobacco Products Directive and the WHO FCTC Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products.

As of May 20th, 2019, cigarettes and roll-your-own tobacco must be marked with a unique identifier code. All the involved economic operators are required to report all tobacco product movements and related financial information. This information is collected and stored in a central system, operated by Dentsu Tracking. The necessary reporting, queries, business analytics, and alerts are provided as part of the Dentsu Tracking solution. This allows Member States and the European Commission to monitor the movements of legal tobacco products (tracking) and to determine at which point a product was diverted into the illicit market, or vice versa (tracing). The analysis can also be used to highlight anomalies, to detect fraudulent activities, and to confirm if products are legitimate when passing inspection points.

All movements are tracked instantly for automated real-time traceability at any point along the supply-chain, and with all the information fed into one centralized database. This takes traceability to a new benchmark. In comparison, in pharmaceutical regulation there is a “check in–check out” approach tracking only a small portion of the supply chain. In food-industry regulation there is typically a “one up – one down” approach without any centralized repository, which means that the traceability and visibility of a product from start to end must be rebuilt manually.

How One Photographer has Committed to the Fight Against Middle School Bullying, One Photo

Casey Scalf of Storybook Studios in Chesapeake, VA is helping build the self-esteem of young girls who have been bullied, through the power of photography.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. 10/22/19— “I created this program a couple of years ago when I started hearing parents tell me about how hard middle school is on their girls. The bullying in middle school is horrible and is detrimental to their self-confidence.” said Scalf.

“As preteens, kids develop their self-esteem during these very important years. We are hearing way too often that kids this age are getting bullied and it breaks my heart. We need to show them that they are worthy…worthy of self-confidence, worthy of loving who they are, worthy of being here to live their life.” said Scalf.

“Since our high school senior portraits have changed the self-confidence of so many seniors, I felt compelled to create the Fearless Spirit Model Crew. This program is designed to boost their self-esteem and self-worth through their own Fearless Spirit portrait session and six monthly model crew sessions.” said Scalf.

By giving Casey a few months of their time, she shows them the negative image they have of themselves is wrong.

“Throughout the process, I take photos of them and prove to them, ‘See this is how beautiful you are. There’s no denying that. It’s truly you.” said Scalf.

“I just cannot say enough about how Caroline’s time with you has transformed her. You have captured her beauty, confidence, sass, innocence and that precious stage of becoming – between little girl and young woman. Through your artistry, she has seen herself in a way that she never has before. When she saw her portraits, she saw a confident, beautiful girl and then believed that about herself. No matter how much we have tried to help her see that, she didn’t until she saw herself through the lens of your camera and it has had such a positive impact on her self-esteem. As a result, you have positively affected every aspect of her life. Her confidence has led to believing in herself, taking chances, setting goals, and reaching them. I am in awe.” Brooke Henderson (Mother of a Fearless Spirit Model)

Upcoming Event:
The First Annual Fearless Spirit Fashion Show and Charity Event at Storybook Studios in Chesapeake on October 26th at 6:00 p.m. This event will be the final photo session and graduation of the Fearless Spirit Model Crew. They will be modeling fearless fashions created by Casey Scalf, owner and photographer of Storybook Studios. This will be the culmination of a 6 month process of building the self-esteem of 9 middle school and high school teen girls who have been bullied and who have been struggling with their self-esteem. With this last photo session, they are challenged to be truly fearless and walk the runway! We want them to be proud and celebrate their unique quirks and all the little things that make them who they are. Ticket sales will go to help support the charity To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), a non-profit dedicated to raising awareness for people who are struggling with mental health issues like depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide.
