Mobile Jungle set to revolutionise the UK’s refurbished phones market

ESSEX, UK; 24 June 2020 – Replacing your mobile phone every few years or when something goes unexpectedly wrong, is an unavoidable part of our modern lives. For some, it’s an excuse to get their hands on the latest and greatest tech, but for those looking to decrease their environmental impact, it can often be a bit more challenging. Shopping for refurbished mobile devices generally comes with mixed results.

Now there is a new, better way to buy refurbished mobile devices, whilst being kinder to the planet. Mobile Jungle is an online store selling high-quality refurbished smartphones and electronic devices direct to the public.

With a passion for sustainability and a vision to revolutionise the industry, Mobile Jungle is starting to get talked about for all the right reasons.

Based in Purfleet, Essex, Mobile Jungle’s team of technicians repair and refurbish all of their devices completely in-house. This has a substantial impact on both the carbon footprint of the business and the quality of the refurbishments.

“We’re here to raise the level of service that consumers seeking to buy a top quality reconditioned device receive,” says co-founder Justin Greenfield,“.  Historically certain customers within the refurbished smartphone market have been distrustful because of the lack of grading and quality control protocols in place, as well as less scrupulous e-commerce retailers leaving them waiting for months to receive the device or not refunding them promptly.

We’re on a mission to change all this by providing reliable service, high-quality and transparently graded products with no messing about”.

Mobile Jungle’s team of experienced and talented technicians take old, unwanted phones and turn them into like-new devices that operate perfectly, meaning customers can get an affordable phone without contributing to e-waste issues.

They may be a new business, but Mobile Jungle have big plans for the future, with ambition to launch a mobile repairs arm soon, where consumers can send in their existing devices for repairs.

Mobile Jungle customers have only good things to say about local business so far. Their trustpilot rating is the best in the sector with a trust score of 4.9 from over 110 reviews and growing.

“This truly is a business built for a modern world, built with conscious consumerism and our customer’s lifestyles in mind – which is why we also offer flexible payment options, including PayPal and Klarna. People’s mobile devices are their link to the world, so we understand how important it is to ensure they always have quick and easy access to a quality, functioning device,” says Greenfield.

Conspicuous Crowdfunding workshops set to give businesses a boost

START-UPS, individuals, charities, and entrepreneurs are being offered a unique chance to master the art of crowdfunding.

Ian James, managing director at Conspicuous Marketing, and Dave Kelly, who heads up Graphene Business Solutions, are running ‘Conspicuous Crowdfunding’ workshops to share the best ways to access this alternative financing resource.

Crowdfunding is a way of raising money from multiple smaller investors rather than a large contribution from a single source, such as a traditional bank loan.

Keynote speakers from legal, financial, sales, marketing and video production sectors will come together on the workshops to guide attendees through every stage of the crowdfunding process, including the different types available. Attendees will also take part in Q & A sessions with business owners who have been through the procedure, sometimes more than once.

Ian said: “There is a misconception that crowdfunding is simple, all you have to do is set up a crowdfunding page, create a pitch video, add a £50,000 target and watch the money come in. This is just not the case.

“The strategy is the most important part of a campaign. Mapping out each stage of the process and ensuring you have built a marketing communication plan often starting months before the campaign even begins.

“Our workshops bring together leading experts to share their knowledge and experience, enabling businesses, charities and individuals to launch their own campaigns.

“People have seen how successful BrewDog and Monzo have been. Even during this pandemic, individuals and businesses are still investing when they see the right opportunity as shown with Captain Tom Moore’s campaign that raised over £32 million!

“As banks are being so cautious about who they lend money to, businesses and charities need to review their strategy to focus on driving their business in the new world after lockdown.”

Dave explained that it had been frustrating to meet so many inspirational people with fantastic businesses or ideas that could not realise their potential – simply due to a lack of funds.

The pair are currently in discussion with a company that had tried to raise £250,000 on its own but fell well short, securing just £450 in three and a half weeks. And while the proposition was “phenomenal”, the pitch, the introduction and the video were “so wrong” that only friends and family ended up giving cash.

Dave added: “Crowdfunding enables entrepreneurs to get access to much-needed funding without being limited because they do not fulfil the box-checking criteria most commercial lenders use.

“We are passionate about supporting these business leaders to harness those ideas and turn them into a reality as this can only foster positive implications for the community around them.”

Participants complete a questionnaire before the start of the course, allowing Ian, Dave and the team to offer tailored advice to individuals as the program goes on.

The main course takes place at over three half days (8.30am – 1.30pm) on the Zoom platform (June 16, 18 and 23), at a cost of £295 + VAT.

In addition, the founders of Conspicuous Crowdfunding, together with Tech Manchester, are offering a free 90-minute Q&A at 10.30am on June 30. The session which will give start-ups a taster of the crowdfunding process, with five key areas to build their strategy on.

Places for both courses are limited and can be booked on Eventbrite.

Andrews Excavations is set to go paperless with PODFather

Andrews Excavations, the family run business running aggregate deliveries, waste recycling and tipper operations out of its East London headquarters, is rolling PODFather’s electronic waste ticketing solution out across its operation. With a fleet of over 100 vehicles operating on construction sites across the South East of England, Andrews Excavations needed an advanced, yet easy to use, solution to replace its historically paper-based processes. PODFather is now relied upon across the fleet to track vehicle movements and collect electronic proof of delivery notifications. As a result, Andrews Excavations is on the road to phasing out paper tickets across its growing business.

“PODFather is enabling us to eradicate paper tickets from our operation for good,” comments Patrick McGinley, Project Lead at Andrews Excavations. “With the system in place we can manage our loads more efficiency and get real time visibility of what is going on where throughout the operation. This has been a game changer for the whole team here at Andrews Excavations.”

All drivers now use the PODFather app, which can be installed on even the most basic of smartphone. The app enables the transport team to upload job information directly to drivers, track actual vehicle movements in real time and collect proof of delivery notifications instantaneously. This has revolutionised internal business processes and has removed the reliance on the return of paper tickets for job completion and invoicing.

“The PODFather app is intuitive and easy to use which has helped in getting it rolled out across all our drivers,” adds McGinley. “In construction things can change quickly but PODFather gives us both the visibility and information we need to cope with change and still maintain efficiency at the same time. It really is a great system for streamlining construction load planning.”

“Andrews Excavations is a great example of how the use of PODFather can eradicate paper tickets from a construction business for good,” comments Colin McCreadie, Managing Director at PODFather. “We’ve worked closely with the team at Andrews Excavations to ensure that the lessons we’ve learned with our nationwide construction clients are applied to this very successful family-run business. We look forward to helping the team banish paper tickets, and the headaches they bring, for good.”

New Digital App Set to Transform the Landscape of Contact Tracing Practices

In the wake of the COVID-19 epidemic, UK company, Vestigo has launched a new website to promote its efforts to develop a digital tracing app called Dot2Dot and test the prototype within the next few weeks.

Dot2Dot will digitise the manual contact tracing procedures utilised by health professionals, making those processes more efficient and less costly by harnessing AI capabilities and social network tracing to maximise the effectiveness of the process. It will mean more contacts can be traced than through current manual practices, at pace and at a lower cost.

The digital contact tracing app, which is at development stage, will primarily be of use in the war against Tuberculosis, but could help health authorities with other infectious diseases.

Dot2Dot was inspired by the daughter of Faye Grundy, one of the founders of Vestigo who, as a result of failures of manual contact tracing, went on to develop tuberculosis meningitis. The TB also spread to other organs, causing permanent damage to her brain, lungs and eyes.

Faye said: “In March 2017, I took my 11-month-old daughter, Dottie, to her village GP. At that time, she was recovering from her meningitis vaccination and had an ear infection.

“At the same time, there was another patient waiting to be seen by the GP who was confirmed – post appointment – to have highly infectious TB. Contact tracing was undertaken for his friends and family.

“However Public Health England’s manual practices failed to identify Dottie as a contact.

“Tragically Dottie went on to develop TB meningitis, pulmonary TB and ocular TB. She was critical on a ventilator in Intensive Care when she was diagnosed, having also developed hydrocephalus which required emergency neurosurgery and multiple subsequent neurosurgeries. She has miraculously survived but has lifelong injuries. As a family the impact is immeasurable.”

Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes TB, currently infects one-quarter of the world’s population, with a 5–15% lifetime risk of falling ill from the disease.

The symptoms of active TB disease are very similar to COVID-19 – amongst them, a cough and fever – which may be mild, leading to delays in seeking care, thereby spreading from person to person through the air by coughing or sneezing. A person needs only to inhale a few of the bacterium to become infected.

Current contact tracing for the disease is conducted using paper-based questions to try and establish a history of movements. However, this process is flawed – paper records are error-prone, not centralised, and there is too much dependence on human interpretation.

Dot2Dot removes the need for paper-based questionnaires and digitises contact tracing to eliminate errors and make the whole process of infectious disease control much more efficient.

Martin Green, co-founder of Vestigo, said: “Digital contact tracing has the potential to revolutionise the process by which a health authority identifies people who might have been in contact with a person carrying an infectious disease.

“When combined with isolation of infected individuals, contact tracing can be very effective in containing and stopping a disease outbreak.”

Avoidable transmission of disease is the number one priority of public health officials and now governments globally.

Martin said: “The most effective way to delay the spread of an infectious disease is to apply accurate, effective and efficient contact tracing as soon as an initial index case is identified.

“The current models for contact tracing are antiquated and too subjective. As a result, practice is inconsistent and dependent on the competency of individual practitioners. Contacts are missed, often those who are the most vulnerable in society.

“The consequences of infectious disease outbreaks are significant both for public health at a macro and micro level, together with huge economic impact, again at both a macro and micro level. And this doesn’t begin to consider the individual human loss and devastation caused to families.”

He went on to say: “Dot2Dot has been designed primarily as a tool to help with manual contact tracing for TB, whereas a lot of the COVID 19 discussion is about population-level tracing.

“Having said that, we’re keen to help if the app can be successfully deployed in the context of the current COVID-19 epidemic.”

Dubai Based Fintech Set to Disrupt UK Digital Payments

Dubai, UAE: Dubai based fintech company specializing in payment processing is set to launch OG Bank and OG Pay (On the Go) a digital banking solution, chat based payment wallet and a digital point of sale (POS) all to be operated from mobile devices.

OG Bank and OG Pay have signed an agreement with Bankable, the global architect of “Banking as a Service” solutions, to offer digital banking and digital payment solutions primarily in the UK and Germany. Whilst OG Bank will be a digital bank, OG Pay claims that with a chat-based payment solution and digital pos through mobile phones in a closed loop environment they will cause major disruption in these markets.

Chat based payment solutions and mobile payment processing is widely and commonly used in Asia. For the last few years a cashless race has been seen in Asia with global players emerging however this type of technology has rarely been seen in Europe. A closed loop system can create advantages for consumers due to the competitive nature and low costs for operators.

Mohammed Ibraheem Khan, CEO of OG Bank and OG Pay said: “I chose Bankable as a technology partner to support my ambition in multiple markets. OG Pay will change the way individuals and businesses send and receive money along with how businesses process payments. We are going to ruffle feathers… A disruption is needed and disrupt we shall”.

“Bankable is delighted to partner with Dubai based OG Pay, a chat based payment pioneer, to launch new payment solutions in the UK and Germany. OG Pay is an ambitious organisation planning to launch digital banking services supported by Bankable API infrastructure, not only in Europe but also in Pakistan, Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia and other jurisdictions,” says Eric Mouilleron, Founder and CEO of Bankable “Bankable will partner with OG Pay in all its markets, appointing new regional bank sponsors in the process.”

Whilst digital banks are emerging and growing in popularity the emergence of payment wallets and adoption in the UK and Europe has been slow. With the world in a cashless race only time will determine the success of such technology in established markets.

Timely Novel Set in a Domestic Violence Refuge by Oldham Writer Highlights Domestic Abuse Figures

Jacqueline Ward, a published novelist living in the 19th most deprived area in the UK, sees her psychological thriller, How to Play Dead, published on 7th November 2019. The novel, published by Corvus Atlantic Books, is set in a domestic violence refuge and follows the stories of four women told from the perspective of the manager of the refuge, Ria Taylor.

Jacqueline wrote this novel loosely based on her experiences on the management board of a former women’s refuge which was closed due to lack of funding in 2015. Domestic violence is experienced by one in four women in the UK in their lifetimes and two women per week are killed in domestic violence incidents. The Domestic Abuse Bill 2019 is currently progressing through Parliament and will be discussed further later in 2019. Greater Manchester Police’s approach to tackling domestic abuse document begins with the words ‘The extent and nature of domestic abuse remains shocking’ and states that 6% of all calls for assistance were for domestic abuse and of these 16% were repeat offences. Oldham has recently slipped from 34th to 19th most deprived borough in the Indices of Deprivation 2019. Early reviews for the novel on expert reviewer site NetGalley have called the novel ‘heart-wrenching’, ‘realistic’, ‘hard-hitting’ and one that ‘every woman should read’.

After growing up in Oldham, Jacqueline worked full-time and studied for a PhD while a single-parent of three children, now has an MBE and is CEO of a charity dealing with high hazard safety. Writing fiction for most of her life, her last novel, Perfect Ten, focusing on gas lighting and revenge, receiving national reviews and stocked by most major supermarkets and bookshops. A registered Health Psychologist, Jacqueline writes widely about psychology and storytelling. Prior to her two-book deal with Corvus Atlantic Books, Jacqueline won US writing competition Kindle Scout and had a crime series published. She also writes short stories and screenplays.

Jacqueline said, ‘I wanted to be clear about what domestic violence and control really is. Although domestic abuse a difficult subject, raising awareness of it through storytelling with fictional characters is one way that everyone can find out what really happens. The rose-coloured spectacles are off in How to Play Dead. This is the real deal.’

How to Play Dead will be available online and in bookstores on 7th November 2019. Jacqueline is represented by Judith Murray at Greene and Heaton Media, Film and Literary Agency.
