Positive ONE receives Japanese Patent regarding technologies for 5G and 6G


Tokyo, Japan, September 1, 2020 — Positive ONE, today announced that the Japan Patent Office (JPO) has issued a formal notice allowing Positive ONE’s patent application regarding next-generation edge computing, IoT, and AI technologies for 5G and 6G mobile technology.

JPO Patent (Patent No. 6703236): It is suitable for processing big data by 5G and 6G mobile services. Especially for images obtained from multiple cameras. It performs overloaded processing such as image classification, object detection, and gesture recognition. It is an architecture that can release multiple distributions to the right place.

 

“The significant increase in power consumption due to 5G and 6G is a bottleneck. This latest patent solves that problem. The key is the power-saving design that makes full use of the high density technology, which is an advantage of PositiveONE. In July 2019, Positive ONE applied to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s management innovation plan, and were approved as an innovation business for small IoT terminals. As part of that extension, a patent was granted to implement a distributing system for 5G and 6G technologies. In particular, server systems on the cloud that process a lot of data, so the load is already distributed. With mobile services that connect to  5G and 6G, even in edge computers and IoT terminals, there is a need to handle large amounts of data such as 4K / 8K video. Therefore, if you are not connected to 5G or 6G, situations such as infrastructure failures can occur. In order to prevent processing delays on edge computers and IoT terminals, it is necessary to have the same (or minimum) processing function as the cloud server. In other words, in small edge computers and IoT terminals, the processing capacity is improved, in order to create low consumption.

Europlaz Technologies Ltd secures contract to manufacture COVID-19 Test Kits


New antibody test kits for ongoing COVID-19 testing and immunity research are now being manufactured in Essex.

Europlaz Technologies Ltd, based in Southminster in Essex, have signed a contract to exclusively manufacture a COVID-19 antibody test kits.

While the existing COVID-19 swab test currently being used by the Government and health services can detect whether a person has the virus at that moment, it cannot tell whether a person has had the virus previously and since recovered. These swab tests also take some time to generate a result.

Antibody tests, on the other hand, can provide near-immediate results about whether or not a person potentially has or has ever had COVID-19. As well as being very useful for key health workers in ensuring a safe return or continuation of their work, knowing generally who is or is not at risk of catching or spreading the virus will provide a much greater understanding of COVID-19 immunity. It will also assist with vaccine research and potentially the easing of some lockdown restrictions in the future.

Europlaz was selected to manufacture these test kits for several reasons,including their fast response to the initial approach, their expertise in medical device manufacturing and a demonstrable track record of engineering highly technical devices. Europlaz also had clear capacity to manufacture the kits within their facilities, having just built two additional Class 7 Clean Rooms – the industry standard for manufacturing medical devices.

Exide Announces Major Solar Partnership in Spain

Battery manufacturer Exide Technologies, a global provider of stored electrical energy solutions, has announced a major new solar installation to power its factory at San Esteban de Gormaz in Soria, Spain. The installation will enable Exide to draw much of its power from renewable sources at the site, leading to large reductions in CO2 emissions. The landmark project will be delivered through a 15-year agreement with international energy group EDP, and follows a similar solar partnership between Exide and EDP in Portugal announced earlier in the year.

“We are excited to join with EDP on another landmark venture in renewable energy,” said Stefan Stübing at Exide, “Energy-intensive industries will have to rely increasingly on sustainable sources like solar, and our new photovoltaic plant with EDP shows the scale of what is possible. Not only will it reduce our carbon emissions, highlighting our commitment to sustainability, it will also improve our operating efficiency and performance.”

The project will involve the installation of a photovoltaic plant for self-consumption using around 4,000 solar panels. EDP España will develop and deliver the plant as a turnkey operation, supplying and assembling its parts and equipment and handling all maintenance and necessary documentation. An energy management system will allow Exide to monitor the energy being generated and how it is used in real time. EDP will run the plant for 15 years, after which Exide will take ownership.

The photovoltaic plant, with equipment generating 1.3 MWp of power, will enable Exide to draw a significant amount of its annual power needs from solar. This will allow the battery giant to reduce its CO2 emissions and improve its environmental footprint. The project is a clear sign of the growing momentum behind solar power as a real and sustainable solution for companies facing uncertainty over the future of fossil fuels.

The new contract was signed at Exide’s Spanish headquarters in Azuqueca de Henares, Guadalajara, by Stefan Stübing, president EMEA at Exide, and Javier Sáenz de Jubera, commercial general director of EDP España. It strengthens the relationship between the two companies, which already partner on a similar plant in Portugal – EDP’s largest solar energy project in that country.

According to Sáenz de Jubera at EDP España, the contract “signifies the possibilities of self-consumption as one of the biggest challenges the energy sector is facing. Solar power is already a solution for companies and will continue to be so in the future, as it offers many advantages: it increases competitiveness, reduces the power bill and optimises energy efficiency, while reinforcing the client’s commitment to sustainability.
