Christmas advert for sale on eBay for 99p to help independent retailers

NEW Christmas advert for sale on eBay
Advert launched to promote independent retailers

December 2019 – In today’s world, there has been a shift away from independent merchants and market stalls towards high street brands, leaving many struggling to thrive in a saturated market. Big players spend millions of pounds every year on Christmas marketing campaigns and mass-produced, generic products.

Putting smaller business back in the spotlight creative and production agency, HELL YEAH! has created a Christmas advert and will be selling copies on eBay for £0.99. Each copy will then be personalised with the independent retailer’s own logo, all with the intention of encouraging people to support local businesses, rather than getting carried away by heavy, emotional marketing.

eBay listing: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283704606453

The video opens with a young boy gazing lovingly at a photo of his mum, played by renowned actor, writer and comedian Annie McGrath, who wrote and starred in Channel 4’s Girls Go Trolling and ITV2’s @elevenish. The young boy proceeds to pull a gift from under his bed and we witness his struggle to wrap the present. Christmas Day arrives, and the boy gives a dodgily-wrapped package to his emotional, very surprised mum. She opens the gift and the angelic Christmas singing which has played throughout stops abruptly. She blasts her son with a tirade full of expletives (beeped out) to express her disappointment at the generic gift bought from a high street chain. The scene closes with a shot of the dad, played by Henry Perryment, one half of critically acclaimed sketch comedy double act GoodBear, who tells his son that his mother is right and concedes that ‘it is a bit s**t’.

“The Christmas ad space is dominated by cheesy, tear jerky films. We wanted to mix it up and add a twist to this tried and tested formula. We hope the film will encourage people to support their local businesses this Christmas.” Dulcie Cowling, Creative Director – HELL YEAH!

“Small businesses sit at the heart of what we do and we’re passionate about ensuring entrepreneurs have the opportunity to flourish on our platform, and beyond. Christmas is a crucial trading period for independent retailers, so we’re delighted to support Hell Yeah! on this project to showcase the best of small business and help them to engage new audiences” Rob Hattrell, Vice President – eBay UK

HELL YEAH! is a new strategic and creative offering from the team behind the award winning production company Studio Yes. They’re a full service production and creative studio that create impactful ideas, with an unapologetically simple approach. They offer a look behind the mysterious curtain that shrouds ad agencies, creating disruptive campaigns for challenger brands. Campaigns that get noticed and make media budgets work harder. hellyeah.co / studioyes.co.uk

Santa Aiming For Christmas Number One ‘The Mince Pie Song’ by Santa

Santa (AKA Father Christmas, Santa Claus, Kris Kringle and Saint Nicholas) has thrown his red hat into the ring to be Christmas Number One. He took a small break from making toys for Christmas and popped into the recording studio to sing about his favourite type of pastry: The Mince Pie.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=859_OsD2Zmg?feature=oembed

Santa credits Mrs Claus for the inspiration for the song. One day, she caught Santa having a cheeky mince pie and commented on the noises he made;

I saw him tiptoe across the kitchen floor and the next thing I knew all the mince pies were gone! All I heard was a ho ho ho, a nom nom nom and a gobble gobble gobble.

Being an unsigned artist in the race for Christmas number one, means the odds are stacked against the jolly red man. But he doesn’t seem that fussed and just wants to put a smile on the faces of his listeners.

The song is expected to be particularly well received in the United Kingdom where the mince pie is an essential Christmas treat. The 2018 UK Christmas Number one was a song about sausage rolls, could another pastry be number one this year? Santa jolly well hopes so!
Endorsements:
“Grunt Grunt Grunt” – Rudolph The Rednosed Reindeer, North Pole
“Cool as a cucumber!” – Snowman, North Pole
“Best Song I have Ever Heard!” – Head Elf Bernard, North Pole News

“Alexa, play the mince pie song”

Santa has even proved to be a bit of a techy and he has released two Alexa skills to support the release of the mince pie song:

Christmas Countdown – The skill will give you an update from Santa everyday from the first of December to Christmas day. It already has over 52,000 reviews and an average rating of 4.3

Santa Claus – The skill let’s you ask Santa for the news from the North Pole, funny workouts, instructions for cooking mince pies and loads more.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B081RX855Y

So what are you waiting for?! Put the song on repeat, grab a mince pie and get into the festive spirit! Merry Christmas!

Santa Is Going Green This Christmas

Santa may be swapping his red suit for green this year. Pinterest have released their annual Christmas trends prediction and, unsurprisingly, sustainable gifts are this year’s big pick.

Childhood memories of packaging piles as tall as the tree may be a thing of the past. With the environment battling with Brexit for front-page space in the nation’s newspapers, families are on the hunt for greener options this festive season.

Sustainable living expert Bella Middleton has been helping people to make environmentally friendly swaps since founding Norfolk Natural Living. She says that when it comes to green gifting, small changes can go a long way.

“Gifting sustainably doesn’t need to mean completely turning your back on packaging (which is lucky if you have children to buy for!). There are some really easy things to look out for which can help with your decision-making.

“For starters, toys in plastic bubble packaging with cardboard backs are becoming easier to avoid. Many toy-makers are developing simpler packaging – and even action figures which come without boxes at all. Although those types of material can usually be recycled, processing all that plastic and paper means huge amounts of unnecessary energy.

“Gift sets are always a festive favourite. They are even easier to keep sustainable. Look for sets in metal tins rather than plastic tubs or card. The tins can be re-used around the home (handy organiser for the junk drawer, anyone?).

“Candles, diffusers and personal cosmetics like natural hand cream are also great gifts for adults. Not only because they usually don’t come with superfluous packaging but also because they are presents that can be enjoyed over a longer period of time.

“A final tip that I always watch out for is wrapping paper. Most people would be surprised to learn just how little wrapping paper can actually be recycled. As a general rule, if it is shiny, has glitter on it or is textured, it can’t be recycled. Plenty of shops now sell fully recyclable wrapping paper – often paper which has already been recycled.”
