- PureGym agrees a 15-year lease with Altered Space
- Gym opening in December 2025 expected to boost visitor numbers to Stanley Square
- 24,000 sq. ft. former Wilko store let to PureGym
The redevelopment of Sale town centre has taken another major step forward as asset manager Altered Space announced a lease agreement with PureGym, which will become Stanley Square’s newest anchor tenant.
Under the 15-year deal, PureGym will occupy the prominent former Wilko unit at the heart of the square, transforming the 24,000 sq. ft. space into one of its state-of-the-art fitness facilities.
The new gym, scheduled to open in December 2025, is expected to act as a significant draw for the local community, generating consistent footfall throughout the year and providing a further boost to Stanley Square’s thriving retail, leisure, food and drink outlets, and offices.
A PureGym spokesperson said: “Following a sustained demand for flexible, affordable fitness in Greater Manchester, we’re excited to be opening a brand-new 16,800 sq. ft gym in Stanley Square Sale, this winter. All through our flagship low-cost and no contract memberships, members will have everything they need to improve their mental and physical well-being, so they can work out and leave the gym feeing their best. We look forward to welcoming members through the doors of PureGym Sale later this year.”
Over the last five years, Altered Space has invested around £5 million into the regeneration of Stanley Square, creating a vibrant, fully-let, mixed-use destination. The scheme has focused on community, local independents, and collaboration, an approach which has proved successful, with footfall up by 10% year-on-year in the last six months alone.
The addition of PureGym builds on this momentum, joining over 30 independent tenants who have flourished since the regeneration project began.
Mark Rebbeck, director of Altered Space, said: “PureGym’s arrival is excellent news for the people of Sale. The extra footfall it will inevitably generate will support the current retail, food and beverage units, as well as our fully-let office space, The Classrooms, which are all thriving in Stanley Square.
Regeneration takes time and is an ongoing process, but Stanley Square has gone from strength to strength since our involvement began in 2019, and PureGym will undoubtedly contribute to Sale’s growing town centre economy.”
Fit-out work for PureGym is already in progress ahead of the planned December opening.
