A Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace cabin aboard the Valiant Lady (priced from $5,910 for two people for a week) delivered far more space and comfort than its compact footprint suggested, according to a Business Insider reporter who sailed the ship’s round-trip Mediterranean itinerary from Barcelona.
What a Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace Delivers for the Price
The cabin measured 225 square feet, the upper end of the Virgin Voyages Sea Terrace range, which spans 185 to 225 square feet and can accommodate up to four guests. Despite travelling with a companion, the reporter found the floor space generous and never felt confined.
Inside sat a queen-size bed, a desk, a bathroom, and a series of hidden storage compartments. A mini-fridge was tucked beneath the desk. Wall shelving in the bathroom kept toiletries ordered, and a rainfall showerhead added to the sense of luxury. A vivid, round mirror above the desk gave the room a distinct character.
One of the more practical features: a tablet mounted in the cabin allowed guests to adjust mood lighting or close the curtains without leaving the bed. Virgin Voyages designed the lighting to shift intuitively in response to the natural light of an approaching sunset. The settings carried names ranging from ‘hangover’ to ‘photo shoot.’ Crew members could also convert the bed into a sofa on request, which changed the feel of the space during the day.
Business Insider paid a media rate for the voyage rather than the published starting price.
The Itinerary and the Balcony’s Role in the Experience
The Valiant Lady operates several Mediterranean itineraries departing round-trip from Barcelona. Virgin Voyages Europe routes on the Valiant Lady include a French Riviera, Italy and Ibiza Overnight sailing, calling at Nice, Rome and Corsica, and an Italy, French Riviera and Ibiza Overnight route calling at Rome, Florence/Pisa and Cannes. The reporter’s sailing included an overnight stop in Ibiza.
The private balcony proved to be the most-used feature of the cabin. Fresh air and sunset views over the Mediterranean made the upgrade from a sea-view window room worthwhile, the reporter concluded. A Sea Terrace sits one tier above a sea-view cabin and two above a windowless interior room. The Sea Terrace is the line’s third tier of cabin.
Nearly all Sea Terrace cabins across the Virgin Voyages fleet include a hand-woven hammock on the terrace. Across the fleet, 86% of the 1,404 cabins and suites on each ship feature a Sea Terrace with a hammock. Each ship carries a maximum of 2,762 guests and 1,150 crew, stretches 912 feet and weighs 110,000 tonnes.
For travellers considering the category, Virgin Voyages is currently running a promotion offering a complimentary balcony upgrade on eligible voyages, bringing the Sea Terrace to the same price as a sea-view cabin on the Scarlet Lady, Resilient Lady, and Valiant Lady. Details are listed on the Virgin Voyages balcony upgrade deal page.
The reporter, who booked the cabin in 2023, said she would book a Sea Terrace again and would recommend it to adult travellers seeking a comfortable base at sea. Reviewers and fans of the line have documented the cabin category in detail at VV Insider, a community resource covering the full range of cabin types across the fleet.
Whether the cabin upgrade deal remains available through the summer sailing season is the variable to watch: once eligible voyages fill, the promotion closes.
