FULLBAY & TMC ANNOUNCE STATE OF HEAVY-DUTY REPAIR REPORT

[Phoenix, AZ – February 11, 2021] Fullbay and the American Trucking Associations’ Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) announced today the State of Heavy-Duty Repair report. The first-of-its-kind report reveals insights and trends in the commercial vehicle repair industry, including demographics, average revenue, the impact of COVID-19, and more.

“This report gives repair shops great insight and benchmarks to compare against their own business,” said Jacob Findlay, CEO and co-founder of Fullbay. “Our unique blend of qualitative and quantitative data, along with a focus solely on the maintenance of heavy equipment and commercial vehicles, means it’s a true apples to apples comparison.”

The report’s findings are based on a combination of survey and shop management data. A selection of 250 repair shops using the Fullbay platform for 12 continuous months provided shop-level data, while the survey consisted of responses from more than 340 Fullbay users and non-users. Both the survey and usage data was collected during 2020.

A few of the key findings from the report included an average gross revenue per shop of between $500,000 to $2 million per year. Additionally, while 54 percent of respondents indicated COVID-19 resulted in a decrease in revenue, 43 percent reported no change or an increase.

The heavy-duty repair space also indicated its top three challenges as hiring technicians, inefficiencies in repairs, and properly managing inventory.

“The obstacles faced by heavy-duty repair shops aren’t new,” said TMC Executive Director Robert Braswell. “At TMC, we have been helping industry professionals for decades to improve its maintenance and maintenance management. Our Recommended Practices offer the perfect companion to repair shops looking for guidance on dealing with these challenges.”

In addition to the industry data, the premium version of the report — available to TMC members — includes recommended practices from both TMC and Fullbay. Industry professionals can download the basic report for free at heavydutyreport.com, and find instructions on how to upgrade to the premium version by joining TMC.

“This report isn’t just something you read and throw away,” Findlay said. “There’s examples and guidance to apply in your day-to-day that will improve your business.”
