Black Pest Prevention Joins NCPMA Bug Cup Golf Tournament

The greens were buzzing for a good reason as Black Pest Prevention joined industry peers for the 4th Annual NCPMA Bug Cup Golf Tournament, hosted by the North Carolina Pest Management Association (NCPMA) at Jamestown Park Golf Course.

The event brought together more than 110 golfers and 20 volunteers from across North Carolina’s pest control industry for a day of friendly competition, fellowship, and fundraising. This year’s tournament raised more than $21,000 for the NCPMA Extension Program Endowment in Honor of Mike Waldvogel at NC State University, along with additional funds for NCPMA Charities, including North Carolina PestVets and Professional Women in Pest Management (NCPWIPM).

The NCPMA Extension Program Endowment, established in honor of Professor Mike Waldvogel’s decades of contribution to the pest management field, supports the ongoing work of North Carolina State University. The endowment funds positions and programs that educate and advance professionals across the state – including research and training in pest control, mosquito control, and termite control, which are vital to both public health and environmental safety.

Representing Black Pest Prevention were Nicole Carpenter, President, and Brennan Carpenter, Vice President of Commercial Operations, who spent the day on the course networking, supporting fellow companies, and celebrating the shared mission that drives the industry.

\”You can feel the energy and goodwill at the Bug Cup,\” said Nicole Carpenter, President of Black Pest Prevention. “It’s one of those events where competitors become collaborators. Everyone’s out there to support research, education, and initiatives that strengthen the pest control community across North Carolina.”

As one of the few women leading a pest control company in North Carolina, Carpenter’s participation also carried special significance – particularly as the event raised funds for Professional Women in Pest Management (NCPWIPM), a program dedicated to empowering and advancing women in the industry.

The tournament featured long drive and closest-to-the-pin contests, two $10,000 hole-in-one challenges, and plenty of opportunities to connect with colleagues between rounds. Despite the threat of rain, the day went off without a hitch – proof that when this industry comes together, nothing slows it down.

Since its inception in 2022, the Bug Cup has raised more than $70,000 to fund research and outreach projects at NC State University – projects that directly benefit pest management professionals statewide.
