The Greek Goddess Hecate
Hecate was a Greek goddess who was known as a goddess of magic, the moon, and crossroads. She was depicted holding a staff with three ribbons or serpents coiled around it. Her Roman counterparts were Trivia and the later Hecuba, who was Prospero’s wife in Shakespeare’s play The Tempest.
Hecate was associated with sorcery and spirits of the night, but she also had dominion over childbirth and wisdom.
