How to revise the syllabus before the Class 12 maths exam?

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts the board exams for classes 10th and 12th. In most cases, the practical exams are conducted in the schools in January and the written exams start in February and end in March. However, this year, because of the coronavirus pandemic, the exams were delayed. 

CBSE ensures that students have enough time between the exams of main subjects to reduce the stress on students and help them prepare better for their exams. Students need to ensure that they use their time efficiently and make the study plan that works for them. This is especially important for a subject like Maths where revision is very important.   • Allot time for all the topics and make a schedule

Different section of this subject has different weightage. Also, depending on your knowledge, you will have different strengths and weaknesses. You need to allocate time accordingly so that you have enough time for revising all the sections. For example, you can either decide to focus on one section like trigonometry at a time or move on sequentially from one chapter to the next. You have to create a schedule for revision and try sticking to it.

  • Know what your syllabus is and focus more on important topics

Before you do anything, you must know exactly what your syllabus is. Then, you need to focus on filtering important topics that you feel are more important and require more attention. You need to devote extra time to topics that have higher weightage as they will increase your chances of securing more marks. If you are someone who gets nervous looking at the question paper in the exam, you can try to solve question papers from previous years with a timer. This will help you be extra prepared and avoid having to freak out during the real exam. Also, some questions are repeated every year. Make sure that you cut out the questions that are no longer part of the revised syllabus. The last thing that you need to do for revising and testing yourself is finding sample papers and finishing them within the allocated time. 

  • Don’t stress a lot and take small breaks

If you study while being focused for long hours, you can definitely be productive. But, it is equally important to take some breaks so that you don’t exhaust yourself – physically or mentally. Experts suggest that taking a comic break can do wonders for you. You can multitask and watch your favourite TV show while eating. But, make sure that you don’t binge watch. 

However, if you take long breaks to avoid taking on more stress, it can become counterproductive. You will start stressing out because of procrastination. Limit your TV time to an hour a day. If you feel burned out or tired, you can take a nap instead of watching TV. This is the best way for you to refresh your mind and get energized. If you don’t feel like sleeping, but still want to give your mind and body a rest, you can walk around the house. You can also go to a park and let nature re-energize you.

  • Relax and increase your focus using meditation and yoga. 

Whether it is the first thing in the morning or while you are taking a break in the evening, a simple yoga routine of 10 to 20 minutes long can do wonders for you. In the morning, start your day by making your bed and moving around. Starting your day on a productive note will set the tone for your day. If at the end of the day, you feel like you have been unproductive the whole day, you should start your mornings right. Don’t take a couple of hours just to get out of your bed. Limit your social media usage, especially right after you wake up or before you go to sleep. You might think that you are relaxing your mind and taking a break. But, the truth is that it has the opposite effect. Even if you are trying to absorb a piece of very light information, it can tire your brain out.

  • Eat healthy while studying

Instead of eating packaged snacks or chips while studying, grab a banana, orange, apple or any other fruits or even some dry fruits. By making the choice of eating healthy foods, you are treating your body and mind in the long term. Don’t satisfy your hunger and cravings instantly by eating Maggi or ordering food online. Eggs, fruits, and vegetables can make you feel lighter and energized while studying. 

  • Break the monotony of the long writing by doodling freely

Expressing important information through diagrams or drawings can make it interesting and easier for you to recall the information and retain it for the long term. Freehand drawings and drawings of mind maps can be useful for improving your understanding of the concepts. It is also a very effective memory aid.

  • Find someone who wants to understand the topics

By explaining a concept or a topic to a friend, you will be able to revise things more effectively and easily. While you are doing that, you might come across some points that you have missed or aren’t clear to you. At the same time, you can discuss the same points with your friends and clear your doubts.
