The Festival de Cannes was founded in 1946 in France, and celebrated its 75th edition this year from 17 May to 28 May as the world’s most glamorous film festival.

Hollywood megastar actor and producer Tom Cruise attended Cannes for the first time in thirty years for a masterclass tribute and the Gala Premiere of the sequel to his 1986 blockbuster on May 18, where he received an honorary Palm d’Or, before attending the Royal Premiere of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ in London on May 19, with HRH Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge.

‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was delayed for release in June 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic and was launched for worldwide cinema theatrical release on May 27, 2022.

“I make movies for the big screen… I love this experience and I want other filmmakers to have that experience,” Cruise told the audience at his masterclass tribute in Cannes on May 18.

“Look at us all together – we’re all united, we all speak different languages, different cultures… but we’re able to come together around a shared experience … cinema is my love, my passion; I always go to movies when they come out.”

The first-in person World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland after the pandemic took place on May 22-26, which Talal Malik has attended meetings of around the world since 2009.
