Flint Bishop appoints new finance director

Law firm Flint Bishop has announced the appointment of Nelson Gonzalez as its new finance director, to help sustain its strategic growth plans during 2023 and beyond.

Gonzalez is a chartered accountant and joins the business with over 20 years’ experience in accounts and finance.

In addition to well-known retailers including Specsavers and Jessops, his previous positions also included leading the UK Finance team of a global multi-billion-dollar service sector business, where he played a vital role in driving multiple projects, including structure reorganisation, ERP implementation and process improvement.

More recently, he was commercial finance director for the Children & Young People division of a major social care provider, with turnover of over £500m.

In his new role, Flint Bishop has revealed that Gonzalez will be heavily involved in financial and risk management operations, to include evolving the financial strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to protect and enhance financial performance across the firm.

He will work alongside chief executive Qamer Ghafoor and chief financial officer Wai Yan Fung to strengthen the firmwide management reporting and develop the financial strategy in line with its growth projections and objectives. Gonzalez will be particularly involved in the financial elements of the strategic plan for the business, which this year reported record revenue.

Ghafoor commented: “Nelson is an established finance leader. His experience in evaluating, strategising, and delivering commercial opportunities will be a major asset to Flint Bishop. His extensive breath of finance knowledge spans numerous market sectors and multiple disciplines, many of which will be crucial as the firm looks to transition towards a more business partner focused structure.

“Nelson is a significant hire for the firm and will play a notable part in our commitment to our ambitious growth strategy over the coming months and years. These are exciting times for Flint Bishop.”
