Trump’s Right-Wing Media Takes a Pity on Trump amid GOP Midterms Underperformance

  • Trump is being attacked by three of the most prominent right-leaning media outlets in America.
  • Despite Republican underperformance during the midterms, Fox News and the NY Post published critical pieces about Trump.
  • Trump is furious that his handpicked candidates lost key House and Senate races, as well as gubernatorial races.

After the so-called “red waves” in this year’s midterm elections, a number of right-wing media outlets published stories critiquing former President Donald Trump.

Although high hopes were that the GOP would secure a strong majority in the House of Representatives, and win critical Senate races across the country and the gubernatorial races in other states, the red wave was more of a ripple. Key Trump-backed candidates lost or were locked in races that are still too close.

Now, a trifecta of leading right-wing media outlets — all owned by the Australian media tycoon Rupert Murdoch — is joining with many Republican consultants to point the finger at the former president.

The New York Post published a Thursday cover story“Trumpty Dumpty,” mocking the Republican Party’s failure to unify.

“Don (who couldn’t build a wall) had a great fall — can all the GOP’s men put the party back together again?” The cover included a cartoon depiction Trump as Humpty Dumbty.

Fox News, owned by Murdoch published a storyThis is a great example of how conservatives feel Trump has damaged the Republican Party’s standing with voters.

One tweet, highlighted in the story, was sent by Michael Brendan Dougherty. He is a senior writer at right-leaning National Review. He wrote that “all of the chatter on my conservative or GOP channels is rage against Trump like I’ve ever seen.” The one guy he attacked before Election Day was DeSantis — the clear winner, meanwhile, all his guys are s—ing the bed.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis cruisedHe defeated his Democratic opponent by nearly 20 points, a commanding performance some compared to Trump’s win in 2020 when he carried the state by only 3.4%.

The Wall Street Journal editorial board followed suit, Thursday’s piece calling Trump the GOP’s “biggest loser.”

The editorial went on to single out a number of Trump-backed candidates — Don Bolduc in New Hampshire, Blake Masters in Arizona, Mehmet Oz and Doug Mastriano in Pennsylvania — who lost or are trailing their opponents because, in the editorial board’s view, they hitched their wagons to Trump.

The article continued to point out that JD Vance (the author and political neophyte) won Ohio’s Senate race not because Trump endorsed him, but because Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell supported Vance in the final stretch.

The WSJ editorial board criticized Trump’s “botching” of the 2022 midterms and said that it could “hand Democrats the Senate for two years more.”

“We’re going so win so much,” Mr. Trump once stated, ‘that your going to get sick of winning. Perhaps Republicans are tired and sick of losing,” the board stated.

Trump, on his part, has denied responsibility rantedOn Thursday afternoon, Truth Social, his social media site, stated that he was not concerned about the midterm results.

He wrote: “For those people that are being fed a fake narrative from corrupt media that I am angry about the Midterms,” he said. “I am not angry. I did an excellent job (I wasn’t the one running!I am always looking forward to the future. Remember, I am a “Stable Genius.”

Trump’s tweet came after Maggie Haberman, a New York Times reporter, tweeted that Trump was “furious” about Oz and was blaming everyone who urged him to back Oz. Melania Trump was also involved in the tweet.

Haberman tweeted that Trump called “it not her best decision, according people close to him.”
