Sterling Chandler says ‘It’s important to be kind with or without a pandemic’

Teenage photographer and creative consultant Sterling Chandler discusses the importance of kindness on social media.

In a recent interview Sterling said “Social media is an amazing tool for artists and creators like myself. I started off using Instagram to showcase my photography, now it has practically turned into my job. I love it! However, like most things there are negative affects. What people perceive to be ‘perfection’ may not always be the case. We only see a fraction of someone’s life from a quick glance at their profile, this is just one layer of that person. It is important to remember that it doesn’t always show the hardships they may be facing or just simply the down days. I feel that it is imperative to be kind in person and on social media everyday, with or without a pandemic.”

If you haven’t already heard of Sterling Chandler you are about to. He is a 17-year-old Photographer & Creative consultant. Founder of Breeze LDN and has had his photography featured in Dazed and British GQ.

Late last year, Sterling Chandler’s photography was featured in the GQ Men of The Year Awards virtual ceremony, as well as published in the Jan/Feb 2021 issue of British GQ.

Aged only 16 at the time of the shoot, Sterling is the youngest photographer to have his work featured in GQ Awards stars.

In addition to this Sterling was the Behind the Scenes photographer and Assistant Director on a recent mini film series for Dazed Magazine and Gucci.

The video named Knotted Gold starred poet and musician Arlo Parks. Absolute Beginners, a short film series which sees nine creative talent do something they’ve never done before: get in the director’s seat. Arlo Parks’ knotted gold pays tribute to the work of seminal photographers Nan Goldin and Ren Hang, and is indebted to the style of legendary filmmaker Wes Anderson. But the poet and musician leaves her mark all over it, with an intimate narration creating a stillness and serenity on the shores of England.
