Airbnb Wants Renters to List Their Apartments for Short Stays

Airbnb is launching a new service that showcases apartment buildings and allows renters list their homes for short stays.

“As living costs continue to rise, renters can use extra income earned by hosting on Airbnb part-time to contribute to their rents, save for a place to live, or pay other living expenses,” Nathan Blecharczyk said, Airbnb’s chief strategy officer and co-founder. 

Airbnb claims that renters who host in apartment buildings earn an average of $950 per month and an average of nine nights.

CNBC reports that Airbnb is showing 175 apartments in 25 US cities including San Francisco, Los Angeles and Atlanta.

The page will also include an interactive “earrings calculator” so potential tenants can estimate how much they could make by renting the apartment part-time. 

Insider’s request for comment outside of normal business hours was not immediately answered by Airbnb. 

Blecharczyk stated in a press release that Airbnb was created during the Great Recession, when Joe and Brian needed help paying rent. Airbnb-friendly apartments are a continuation of that founding story, making it easier for people and businesses to reap the economic rewards of hosting.
