New programme looks to inspire Eden’s economic recovery
Eden District Council has unveiled its new Economic Development framework, ‘Inspiring Eden’.
This week, Eden District Council’s executive approved the document, which sets out the Council’s ambitions and priorities for supporting and driving economic recovery and prosperity in the district.
The programme will be overseen by a new-look economic development team and underpinned through collaborative working with a range of local and strategic organisations.
As part of the new strategy, the Council is providing an enhanced package of business support. Eden firms will be able to access fully-funded, one-to-one support from expert business advisors on common problem areas like finance, marketing and business plan design. Whether you’re a farmer looking at diversifying, a fledgling start-up or a business that employs dozens of workers, Eden District Council wants to help you develop and grow your business within the district.
There is also a particular focus on supporting town centres, youth employment, tourism and the rural economy – which will include placing decarbonisation and arts and culture at the heart of delivery.
Cllr Mary Robinson, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economies and Enterprise at Eden District Council, said “The Inspiring Eden programme will be critical for supporting local economic recovery and, as result, helping local businesses and residents access opportunities to prosper and thrive once more.
“I’m very keen that we encourage and promote enterprise and entrepreneurship in Eden. We want to support individuals and communities in taking the initiative and being creative in grasping the challenges and opportunities faced: we know that local communities are at the heart of economic recovery.”
Cllr Mark Rudhall, Green Growth Portfolio Holder, added, “It is a key priority of the Council to ensure that environmental sustainability sits at the heart of everything we do, including our economic vision, to ensure that we encourage prosperity for generations to come. I’m pleased that the economic programme will include a focus on protecting and enhancing the fantastic places and landscapes that we are blessed with in Eden.”
