The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in Bitts Park

Event date: 05/06/2022 Export event

Event Location: Bitts Park

Sunday 5 June

There will be celebrations across the country in 2022 to mark HM The Queen’s 70th year on the throne.

In Carlisle, the focus of the Platinum Jubilee will be in Bitts Park, where on Sunday 5 June from 10.30am a partnership of local organisations will be hosting a special celebration.

The Jubilee fun will last all day, including a Family Film Show on a giant screen in the morning at 11am, followed by the Big Jubilee Lunch, where everyone will be invited to bring their own picnic and join the party! And for those who prefer to let someone else do the catering, the Tribe food outlets will be offering a wide selection of delicious take-aways from the pop-up units by the children’s play area.

In the afternoon, at 2pm, the big screen will live-stream coverage of the Jubilee Pageant from outside Buckingham Palace. The London celebrations will include street theatre, music and dance representing all corners of the Commonwealth, performed by over 5,000 entertainers. A River of Hope will wind its way along the Mall, made up of 200 silk flags. It’s sure to be a colourful and vibrant tribute to the Queen’s record breaking 70-year reign and not to be missed.

The theme of the Bitts Park Jubilee celebrations is ‘Communities and Hope’ and the service of many people to their own local community will also be a feature. Carlisle City Council is one of the partners in organising the Bitts Park event.

The City Council has been joined by Carlisle Vineyard Church and Carlisle HealthCare Social Prescribing team in organising the celebrations.

Among the community groups taking part are Carlisle College, Cumbria Wildlife Trust, Tullie House Museum and Art Gallery, Sustainable Brampton, Carlisle Cathedral, Multicultural Cumbria, Cumbria Organic Gardeners and Farmers and many others. There’ll be a ‘virtual village’ of stalls, stands and activities representing the range of community groups and organisations that help to shape the place we live in.
