On 6 June, The Women’s Tour will race through Babergh and Mid Suffolk after setting off from Colchester, heading towards the finish on Angel Hill in Bury St Edmunds.

The race, which is one of the major events for the Festival of Suffolk which celebrates the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, features sprint and climb sections (known as Queen of the Mountains) to test the riders’ endurance.

This year’s race will see all endurance sections take place in Babergh.

The sprints will be in Holbrook and Hadleigh, while the Queen of the Mountain climbs will be in Brantham and Bildeston.

Cllr Mary McLaren, cabinet member for communities and wellbeing at Babergh District Council, said:

“I’m very excited that the Women’s Tour is just days away from racing through Babergh and the Shotley Peninsula – with its joint biggest field of world-class riders to date.

“National sporting events like these are always a crowd pleaser. And, this year, all the stage one race’s endurance sections including sprints and climbs will be in our district – offering spectators in Brantham, Bildeston, Holbrook and Hadleigh an extra thrill on race day!

“I hope many will come out on 6 June to show their support for the riders and enjoy the beauty of the place we’re proud to call home. And, hopefully, walk away feeling inspired to get active or give cycling a go.”

Full maps, and timetables for the race can be found on the Women’s Tour website.
