Former Vice President Mike Pence claimed that, in the aftermath the Capitol riot of January 6, 2021 that Donald Trump was “genuinely sorry” for the events that occurred, with the commander of the army asking about the welfare of his family.

During the interviewShannon Bream interviewed Pence on Fox News Sunday to discuss his feelings leading up to January 6 and his thoughts on the day and days following the riot.

Pence spoke of Trump saying, “I felt he was deeply regretful about what had occurred.” “He immediately asked me about Karen, Charlotte, and who were there with me all day on January 6th-7th. He asked me how they were doing. I replied with sternness, ‘They’re fine Mr. President, they won’t leave. Then he asked me, “Were you afraid?” I responded, “No, my anger.”

“I was angry about our differences and I was infuriated by what I saw that day — people ransacking the Capitol and assaulting police officers. The former vice president said that he appeared genuinely remorseful in that moment.

Trump and Pence were at odds before January 6, with Trump pushing his No. 2 to help him overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential victory, while the then-vice president sought to adhere to the Constitution — setting up a major conflict between the two men.

“The President and me clashed in days leading up to January 6,” Pence said. Bream told Pence that he will always believe that he fulfilled his duty under the Constitution that day and that he upheld the peaceful transfer.

Pence has been critical and praising Trump’s administration since leaving the Naval Observatory.

Trump is already running for the White House in 2024, while the former vice-president has also considered entering the presidential contest.
