Top 10 Christmas traditions that parents love to do with their families – film nights, decorating the tree, and more
Eight in 10 parents reckon Christmas will lose its sparkle this year – because they don’t have the time or money to make it magical.
A poll of 2,000 mums and dads found 86 per cent want to make the festive season feel special, but 32 per cent don’t think they can this year.
45% of these people claim they are too busy and 33% feel pressured to meet work deadlines.
A third of respondents anticipate taking more time off from work to bring Christmas back to life. 26% will be working extra hours before the holidays in order to build up time.
The research was commissioned as part of wilko’s Christmas campaign which highlights how the magic can in fact go further this year, even if it’s just through doing the small things that don’t break the bank or take lots of time.
This message was communicated by the home and garden retailer, who enlisted a Christmas-loving family as the creative directors of its 2022 Christmas campaign.
Making memories
Michelle Kirkup, from the winning family, said: “Our entry was based on giving the gift of kindness at Christmas and we wanted to share how having a magical Christmas doesn’t have to mean piles of presents – it can be as simple as curling up in front of a favourite festive film with family.
“It doesn’t really matter what age your children are, it’s just about finding ways to adapt over the years to bring the magic to life in different ways – whether that’s decorating the tree, making gingerbread men or just simply spending time together.”
Research also showed that 48% of those who want to make this holiday memorable for their families enjoy it, and 29% want to improve upon the past few years which were a bit disappointing.
41 percent of moms and dads who are planning to make this a different time of the year than any other expect to fill their weekends full of activities.
They love to spend the holiday season with their children by curling up in front a movie (61%), decorating the tree (45%), and leaving Rudolph and Santa a carrot and mince pie (43%).
OnePoll also found that 7-year-olds are the most magical year for children, while 69% of parents celebrate this holiday more now than they did when they had children.
48% believe things will improve this year because their children are older and better understand the holiday season.
