West Country football club is taken over by a new owner

A millionaire businessman is now the new owner of a South West soccer club.

Patrick Chambers,  who founded Coldseal Windows, has taken over at Gloucester City. He is now the National North League Team’s new owner.

He replaces Eamonn Mcgurk, who announced at start of the year the club was for sale.

Chambers is currently chairman of Hungerford Town and his wife is the commercial director.

Chambers addressed the fans via a statement posted on the club’s website.

He said: “I can’t tell you all just how excited we are to take the reigns at this wonderful football club from the 2023/24 season.

“We have visited you on several occasions and the opportunity to grow the club, both on and off the pitch was just too tempting to turn down.

“The facilities are second to none and with some hard work and sound strategic decisions we can make this club huge together and fan engagement is a big priority for myself as Chairman.

“You will see myself and Nicky very hands on come matchday to deliver the best family fan experience possible.”

Plans are in place to allow the new owners to meet their fans and talk about their visions for the future.

A statement from the club read: “We’re delighted to announce that Patrick Chambers is set to take over as the Gloucester City AFC chairman.

“Patrick has been a friend of the club in recent years, and we’re delighted to have come to an agreement with him and of course his wife Nicky, who will join him at the Tiger Turf stadium.

“The final details of the takeover will be signed over the next 3 months, with Patrick formally taking charge at the end of the 2022/23 season.

“They’ll bring the fans, the city, and the community together in a way that will no doubt give the football club the springboard it needs for success.”

Eamonn McGurk, his business partner Alex Petheram and the remaining 23 years on the current leasehold agreement are still in discussions about the sale of the freehold.
