Huge Rise in Demand for Seaside Holidays Since the End of Lockdown

A leading UK travel website has witnessed a massive increase in demand for seaside holiday accommodation, following the relaxation of Covid-19 social distancing measures in early July.

Cornwall based holiday company Simply Sea Views has seen its website traffic more than double, as more people than ever search for coastal properties for a post-lockdown holiday.

The hike in demand began on 19th June when the Government announced that UK residents could travel internally again from early July. Since then, website visitor numbers have soared and bookings have increased substantially.

Visits to simplyseaviews.co.uk increased by 153% from an average of 4,500 users per day in the week before the announcement to 11,400 users per day in the week leading up to 19th July.

Website traffic peaked at 13,975 unique users on 19th July, which made it the busiest day in the company’s history.

Business founder and owner Josh Williams commented: “For the past month, we’ve been inundated with enquiries from people looking for holiday accommodation on the coast. It has been our busiest period since we launched the website five years ago.”

Analysis of search terms used to access the website revealed that a majority of visits were from people looking for beach holidays, coastal cottages and properties with sea views.

Josh Williams continued: “It seems that people were desperate to escape to the seaside for a holiday as soon as restrictions eased. It’s always a busy time of year, but levels of demand have been exceptional this season.

“We expected staycations to be very popular this year, as people are reluctant to travel abroad, but we’ve been blown away by the huge spike in interest for holidays by the sea.”

Simply Sea Views promotes holiday cottages, houses and apartments in coastal destinations throughout the UK and Ireland. All 3,640 properties have partial or full sea views, and many are located at or very close to a beach.

Josh Williams added: “We’re in the unique situation where demand is outstripping the supply of holiday homes and we have very limited availability left for this summer. We’re suggesting people visit in the autumn instead when things are quieter. We’re hoping this will help to extend the season and bring much needed custom for coastal tourism businesses.”

Roey Hayon: “Real estate prices will rise in the UK- after Coronavirus lockdown”

The real estate market is mostly going on a rebound once this Coronavirus lockdown is relaxed. The prices in the housing market will surge so much due to the edging up of activity levels.

Roey Hayon says, “Before the government restrictions on movements that affected all business sectors including the real estate market, the prices of houses had grown at a very high rate since February 2017. Although this figure is from a different period, it points into a direction of optimism that the market will get better after the lockdown is eased.”

Just in April, there was a 3.7 per cent increase on an annual basis in house prices. That means the average increase in a UK home moves up from £219,583 in March to £222,915 in April. This data is calculated based on the mortgages submitted earlier in the year but approved in April.

The 3.7 per cent increase on an annual basis is an indication of significant growth during the lockdown as well as an indication that prices of houses in the UK real estate market were actually on a rebound from the uncertainties caused by Brexit before the pandemic struck.

The economic response after the coronavirus shock

As a result of the robust labour market conditions, stable political backdrop after the general election, and low borrowing costs, activities and market prices are beginning to edge up. Although the short-term economic response is still quite uncertain, the economic intervention from the government is setting the tone for a foreseeable rebound immediately after the pandemic.

“The government intervention has totalled nothing less than £330 billion. These interventions are properly set to buoy the economy at this drastic time. More so, this intervention would also help to reduce the impact of the pandemic on the real estate market than what could have been with such a huge economic shock.” Says, Roey Hayon.

Since most of the transactions that were ongoing before the lockdown started were instead put on hold than cancelled, there is a higher tendency they would be continued once the lockdown and restrictions on movement ease off as soon as possible. And this would put a limit on the impending economic damage.

Roey Hayon concludes, “The annual house prices will only enter a negative territory this year if only if there is a huge drop in demand. But with the current functionalities of things, we don’t anticipate a downward turn in house prices in the UK real estate market at any point in the immediate future.”

Pharmacists at medino have reported a sharp 1044% rise in the demand for hand sanitiser in the UK

The digital pharmacy, medino, has seen sales of hand sanitiser rise by 1044% in February when
compared to the preceding three month period of November to the end of January across the whole of
the UK.

Pharmacists at medino pharmacy have reported a sharp rise in the demand for hand sanitiser in the
UK. In particular, sales of brands such as Carex, Cuticura, Enliven and Numark have seen the most
notable rise since the beginning of February.

The digital pharmacy, medino, has seen sales of hand sanitiser rise by 1044% in February when
compared to the preceding three month period of November to the end of January.

The spike has been notable across the whole of the UK, with medino shipping nationwide from their
warehouse in London.

The hotspots for hand sanitiser sales appear to be linked to where cases of the coronavirus have
been confirmed in the UK, with London and Brighton taking the two top spots.

The pharmacy has been keeping up with demand but suppliers are starting to struggle. It’s expected
that this is to continue whilst customers stockpile hand sanitiser supplies.

Superintendent Pharmacist Giulia Guerrini says “Some customers have told us they’ve ordered for
offices and workplaces and we’ve seen large quantities purchased by new customers who have
recently come across our site. We’ve done well to keep up with demand and we’ve managed to
source hand gel from a number of different suppliers here in the UK”.

The Superintendent Pharmacist and her team analysed the buying habits of thousands of medino
customers and found that the number of new customers buying hand sanitiser is increasing as
opposed to their current customers repurchasing.

“A number of these customers are not our regular buyers, rather we’re seeing new customers
purchasing large quantities of hand sanitiser suggesting people are stockpiling in response to recent
events,” said Ms Guerrini.

It’s recommended that you wash your hands with soap and water whenever possible but when that’s
not possible, the best hand sanitiser to use is one with more than 60% alcohol content. Alcohol-based
hand sanitisers don’t kill all germs but they’re very effective at reducing microbes on your skin when
used in the correct way.
